Alpine teams up with Lacoste for snappy A290

  • Alpine x Lacoste - new partnership
  • Results in chic new Alpine Lacoste A290 Rallye
  • One-off gets widened tracks, dish-like alloys, exposed carbon fibre
  • Crocodile references everywhere you look
  • Red interior like ‘stepping into the crocodile’s mouth’

If you love electric hot hatches, chic sports fashion, and crocodiles, we’ve got just the car for you.

The new Alpine Lacoste A290 Rallye is the result of a new collaboration between Alpine and premium French lifestyle brand Lacoste.

Chances are you’ve owned a Lacoste polo shirt emblazoned with the firm’s trademark crocodile logo.

Here that snappy croc theme is dialled up to 11, where the car’s tooth-white exterior gives way to a blood-red cabin that is, according to Alpine, like ‘stepping into the crocodile’s mouth’.

What is the Alpine A290 Rallye?

The starting point for this high fashion one-off is the Alpine A290 Rallye (see below)

The Rallye isn’t a car you can lease, but it is a sought-after electric hot hatch that’s designed for amateur and professional rally teams rather than public roads.

The sportiest version of the road-going Alpine A290 is the GT Performance+ model, by the way, which gets Michelin pilot sport 5S tyres, Brembo 4-piston monobloc front brakes, and 220 hp.

What’s different about the Alpine Lacoste A290 Rallye?

The good people at Alpine and Lacoste say this one-off A290 Rallye is designed to ‘push the limits of performance while cultivating functional elegance and the constant pursuit of lightness’.

What that really means is that you get a tricked-out EV with wider tracks, satellite dish-like alloys, an eye-catching rear diffuser, and roof air intake.

There’s also oodles of exposed carbon fibre and headlights that resemble a crocodile’s eyes.

Step inside the cabin of the Alpine Lacoste A290 Rallye and it might feel like you’ve just been swallowed by a scaly predator.

In fact, there are more than 290 crocodiles integrated into the car’s overall design.

Meanwhile 3D printed materials help to shed weight.
