Subaru set to launch Uncharted EV

  • Subaru Uncharted unveiled
  • Compact electric SUV
  • Available with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive
  • Power of up to 344 PS and rapid acceleration

Here’s your ticket to electric adventures in the great outdoors - the incoming new Subaru Uncharted.

When it arrives early 2026, the Uncharted will be Subaru’s first fully-electric compact SUV.

The larger electric Subaru Solterra is already available to lease and the larger-still Subaru E-Outback (read below for more details!) is also primed for a launch next year.

Here’s everything we know about the Subaru Uncharted so far.

Is the Subaru Uncharted fully electric?

Yes, the Subaru Uncharted is a fully-electric compact SUV that’ll compete with cars like the Kia EV3 and Ford Explorer.

In terms of its size, the Uncharted is slightly bigger than the Subaru Crosstrek (which is petrol-powered) but smaller than the Subaru Solterra (which is electric).

Like most Subarus, the Uncharted is designed for motorists who love the great outdoors and need something rugged and capable to get them there.

Thanks to a long-running alliance between Toyota and Subaru, the Uncharted is very much a sibling car to the soon-to-be-launched Toyota C-HR+, with the two cars sharing the same silhouette and interior.

The cabins of both cars boast a squared steering wheel, dual wireless chargers, paddle shifters and a 14-inch infotainment display.

What size battery is fitted to the Subaru Uncharted?

Three drivetrain options will be available for the Subaru Uncharted - and the one most folks will want is the all-wheel drive system.

That powertrain gets a 77 kWh battery, power of 344 PS, the ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.0 seconds, and 292 miles of range.

Handily, the AWD Uncharted also boasts a 1,500 kg towing capacity, which will be important for those who need to lug a trailer of kayaks to the nearest bit of whitewater.

The so-called ‘Long Range Front-Wheel Drive’ set-up uses the same 77 kWh battery and delivers a longer range between charges, at 363 miles.

Meanwhile the most affordable model is another front-wheel drive variant which uses a smaller 57.7 kWh battery for a 276-mile range.

All versions of the Subaru Uncharted are equipped with a 22 kW on-board charger as standard, allowing it to charge from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes, even in extreme conditions, thanks to its pre-conditioning capabilities.

Is the Subaru Uncharted good off-road?

The Uncharted should be capable of negotiating tricky terrain, particularly if you lease the AWD variant.

A turning circle of 5.5 meters, 210 mm of ground clearance, and suspension and steering honed for the tough stuff should make venturing off the beaten track a doddle.

Even FWD models will ‘retain superior road-holding and dynamic capability’, says Subaru.

What other electric Subaru models are available to lease?

The Subaru Solterra is available to lease right now - and will be refreshed in 2026.

New models will get sleek new styling as well as significant hardware and software upgrades.

The dual e-axles now deliver 344 PS, enabling the Solterra to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. The drive battery capacity has increased to 73.1 kWh and is capable of exceeding 310 miles on a full charge.

Further battery improvements have also resulted in faster charging speeds, with the new Solterra now able to charge from 10 to 80% in just 30 minutes at -10°C, with pre-conditioning and an optional 22 kW AC charger. Towing capacity has also doubled to 1,500 kgs.

A fully-electric Subaru Outback - called the ‘E-Outback’ and pictured above - will also arrive in 2026 (this was initially teased as the Subaru 'Trailseeker' but it'll be called the E-Outback here in the UK).

Here a 74.7 kWh battery will unlock 380 PS and let the E-Outback race from 0-62 mph in just 4.4 seconds while also giving a decent range of up to 279 miles.

Subaru’s iconic Symmetrical AWD system is complemented by 210 mm of ground clearance, a dual X-MODE terrain selection system and provides a 1,500 Kg towing capacity.
