- New MG IM5 and IM6 revealed
- IM5 is an executive saloon
- IM6 is a medium-sized SUV
- Both are fully electric and absolutely rapid
- Both offer sleek new looks and more upmarket feel
- IM5 priced from £39,450, the IM6 from £47,992

MG has launched two new EVs - and they represent a bold move into more upmarket territory for the famous British brand.
Up until now, the Chinese-owned manufacturer has focused on budget-friendly hatchbacks and SUVs that offer maximum bang for the buck.
But that approach is about to shift - in dramatic fashion. We urge you to take a seat…

The MG IM5 (above) is a sleek executive saloon that begins at £39,450 - which is more than anything else in the MG range barring the futuristic MG Cybster.
In Performance spec it’s able to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds. Yep, you read that right. An MG saloon that’s quicker than a Porsche Taycan GTS. That’s absolutely astonishing, whichever way you look at it.
The new MG IM6 (below) is even pricier, starting at £47,992, and which should give rivals like the Tesla Model Y a good run for its money.

It too can be enjoyed in Performance guise, with 751 PS (same as the Performance IM5 gets) making the IM6 capable of doing the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds.
That ‘IM’ prefix, by the way, means ‘Intelligence in Motion’ and David Allison Head of Product and Planning for MG, adds: “MG has made EV ownership accessible, exciting and different with the MG Cyberster convertible leading the way for the brand. But now, we’re seeking to deliver technology leadership and innovation with MG IM, engaging with customers aspiring for the future, today.”
Here’s everything we know so far.

Why lease the MG IM5?
The IM5 is a fully-electric executive saloon that wouldn’t look amiss parked next to the Tesla Model 3 or BYD Seal.
It sits on sophisticated 800V electric architecture (same as upmarket brands like Porsche) and it’s available in three different guises; 75 Standard Range, 100 Long Range, and 100 Performance.
Standard Range models get power of 295 PS (thanks to a 75 kWh battery), 450 Nm of torque, and a range of up to 304 miles between charges. The Standard Range IM5 can also accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.8 seconds.

The 100 Long Range model gets a larger 100 kWh battery, 407 PS, 500 Nm of torque, and a range of up to 441 miles between charges. It’ll also rip from 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The range-topping Performance variant also makes use of a 100 kWh battery. While the range dips to a max 357 miles, the power goes way up to 751 PS alongside 802 Nm of torque, and acceleration is properly blistering; 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds.
That rapid 800V architecture can deliver a 10 to 80 per cent charge in just 17 minutes.

Meanwhile MG says the car’s cabin is akin to a ‘penthouse suite’.
Expect automatic parking, a ‘Rainy Night Mode’ which uses cameras to highlight dangers you might miss with the naked eye, and rear wheel turning technology to make urban driving a doddle and which can also make the IM5 go sideways like a crab!
There’s an enormous ultra-HD 26.3-inch infotainment display which is supported by a 10.5-inch touchscreen. That comes as standard on all cars.
Every IM5 also features a panoramic roof and a bespoke audio system featuring 20 speakers with the addition of four in-ceiling ‘Sky Speakers’ for the richest, fullest sound.
Why lease the MG IM6?

It’s a very similar story for the IM6 - which is the high-riding SUV sibling to the IM5 saloon.
It’s also going to make a compelling alternative to the Skoda Enyaq and new Kia EV5.
All variants get a 100 kWh battery, and the IM6 will be up for grabs as the Long Range, Performance, or range-topping ‘Launch Edition’.
Expect a range of between 313 and 388 miles, depending on which IM6 you choose to lease, and even base models get power of 407 PS.

All models come with a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including adaptive Cruise Control, active emergency braking, lane keep assist, and intelligent lane change.
Standard equipment also includes synthetic leather upholstery, 12-way electric massaging, heated and ventilated front seats, heated seats in the rear, a hands-free tailgate, wireless phone charging, and a 360-degree camera.
