Plug-in hybrid Volvo XC60 crowned ‘Towcar of the Year 2025’

The plug-in hybrid Volvo XC60 has been named ‘Towcar of the Year 2025’ in the annual Caravan and Motorhome Club awards.

Besides winning the overall silverware, the ‘T6 Plug-in Hybrid AWD’ version of the XC60 also triumphed in the ‘Caravan weight over 1800kg’, ‘Family Towcars’ and ‘Hybrid Towcars’ categories.

The premium SUV was praised by judges for its ‘effortless performance, towing capability, ease of driving, comfort levels and roomy interior’ - all of which is ‘ideal for discerning caravanners’.

A Caravan and Motorhome Club spokesperson said: “It has the potential to carry family-sized luggage loads, has a level stance when hitched to a suitably sized caravan, and has excellent visibility for pitch reversing procedures. There's no better towcar on sale right now.”


Electrified cars were well represented in the awards - with six of this year’s entrants being plug-in hybrids and nine being pure electric.

There were big wins for pure EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, VW ID.7, and BMW i5.

Meanwhile the Volkswagen Amarok beat the Ford Ranger to the prize in the ‘Pick-Up Towcars’ class.
