‘Striking’ new Kia Sorento launches

Kia has updated its attractive Sorento SUV - and the seven-seater has borrowed its looks from the award-winning Kia EV9.

You can’t blame Kia for leaning heavily on the EV9 for style tips, with the electric flagship having recently been named World Car of the Year (and World Electric Vehicle) at the 2024 World Car Awards.

And the Sorento’s makeover sees it looking sharper than ever.

There are new vertical headlights and ‘star map’ daytime running lights, with redesigned alloy wheels and a new bonnet design that ‘emphasises the Sorento’s bold, rugged appearance’, says Kia.

The Sorento is also sporting a redesigned radiator grille as well as black side sill and wheel arch moulding.

Kia reckons the Sorento is ‘one of the best-equipped models in its segment’, and it’s certainly well-specced as standard.

You can expect, even with entry-level variants, heated front seats, a large 12.3-inch touchscreen with sat nav and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, smart cruise control, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and safety systems such as lane keep assist, Trailer stability assist (TSA), and Multi-collision braking system (MCB).

Kia has also simplified the trim levels. There are three tiers - ‘2’, ‘3’ and ‘4’.

And at all grades you can choose from a wide choice of powertrains - diesel, petrol hybrid or plug-in hybrid. Seven-seats are par for the course.

Power ranges from 190 bhp with the diesel to 249 bhp with the plug-in hybrid.

The entry-level ‘2’ Sorento enjoys 17-inch alloys, tinted glass and a cloth and artificial leather upholstery.

The ‘3’ adds extras like larger 19-inch rims, black leather upholstery, heated seats and window blinds in the back, ambient lighting, a Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, and rear self-levelling suspension.

Meanwhile the range-topping Sorento ‘4’ boasts a tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather interior, heated and ventilated ‘premium relaxation seats’ in the front, remote smart park assist, and a customisable head-up display.

The new Kia Sorento is priced from £41,995 to buy outright and you can lease a Sorento with Select Car Leasing from £527 per month*.

As ever, one of the Sorento’s key rivals will be the Hyundai Santa Fe, another seven-seat SUV with a good choice of powertrains.

From the initial contact through to delivery it’s been a great experience with Select. Ronnie was quick to respond to my enquiry and provide the information needed to make a quick decision. She and other colleagues also followed up throughout the process to make sure I knew what was happening and to make sure I was ready for delivery and all was ok when the car arrived. The customer portal they have for the process is also easy to use. I’ve been really happy with the experience and would definitely recommend Select if you’re looking to lease a car.
