- Skoda reveals Kodiaq Armoured
- Certified to resist grenades and assault rifles
- Will keep motoring even with all four tyres punctured
- Shipped to discerning clients across the globe
This new Skoda Kodiaq Armoured will repel grenades while standing firm against a volley of 200 rounds of ammunition.
And with upgraded suspension, brakes and tyres, it might even cope with the UK’s potholed roads…
The Kodiaq is, of course, an affordable seven-seat SUV and a vehicle that’ll shrug-off anything family life can throw at it.
This ‘Armoured’ version, however, is an infinitely tougher beast.
It has been developed in conjunction with British-based security experts UTAC Special Vehicles and follows behind the Skoda Superb Armoured, which was launched in 2018 and sold to around 500 discerning clients around the world.
The Kodiaq Armoured is fully certified to ‘PAS 300’ and ‘PAS 301’ Civilian Armoured Vehicle standards.
What does that actually mean?
Well, the certification process involved the Kodiaq being subjected to 200 rounds of ammunition as well as a ‘blast resistance’ assessment for the SUV’s side, roof and underfloor.
A Skoda spokesperson explains: “Kodiaq Armoured meets all these criteria and offers exceptional levels of personal protection for occupants.”
There’s bullet-resistant glass and armoured steel protection for the passenger compartment.
And the Kodiaq Armoured offers resistance to ‘various handguns and assault rifles’ as well as ‘grenades and high explosives’.
Due to the extra weight the Armoured model is carrying compared with the regular Kodiaq, the suspension and braking systems have been improved.
The Kodiaq Armoured will retain control even with all four wheels punctured, as a ‘tyre retention system’ stops the rubber from leaving the rim.
Other features incorporated into the design is an emergency lighting and siren system along with an 8-inch touchscreen communications hub with GPS, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
Unlike the regular Skoda Kodiaq, however, the Armoured car is only available with five seats.
The Kodiaq also comes brilliantly well-equipped as standard. On entry-level lease models you can expect 18-inch alloys, a 13-inch touchscreen with sat nav, heated front seats, and parking sensors at the front and rear.
