Kia EV9 GT debuts with 502 bhp!

  • Kia EV9 GT - full specs revealed
  • Priced from £82,185
  • Makes it the most expensive Kia ever
  • Power of 502 bhp and 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds
  • Available to lease imminently
  • Kia has also unveiled an updated EV6 GT with 641 bhp

Here’s living proof that 7-seat family cars don’t need to be dull - we present to you the all-new Kia EV9 GT.

In its normal form, the fully-electric EV9 is already potent enough as it is, with all-wheel drive variants offering 378 bhp and the ability to launch from 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds.

But this new GT variant dials things up to 11.

A 99.8 kWh battery pack and dual-motor setup offers 502 bhp, 740 Nm torque, and acceleration from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds.

Not bad for a practical people mover and, as Kia points out, you’re looking at the manufacturer’s electric ‘grand tourer halo model for families’.

It also trumps the EV9’s nearest rival, the Volvo EX90, when it comes to pace, with Twin Motor Performance versions of the EX90 doing the 0-62 mph sprint in 4.9 seconds.

With all of that oomph, the EV9 GT also needs to handle well. Kia has addressed that by fitting it with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) as standard, as well as a Road Preview System to detect and react to changing road surfaces. An electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD) with dynamic torque vectoring aids cornering stability.

The EV9 GT’s Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) apes the sound and feel of gear changes with a combustion engine, while dedicated ‘GT’ Drive Modes also ‘amp up the EV9 GT’s exciting and sporty character’, says Kia.

Despite all of that performance, you’ll still enjoy a range of up to 280 miles between charges.

And you can opt for a Kia EV9 GT lease with either six or seven seats, with the six-seater GT featuring second-row relaxation seats and a sliding console table in the cabin.

The GT model is priced from £82,185, which is cheaper than the most potent Volvo EX90 but still makes it the most expensive Kia we’ve ever seen!

The EV9 GT should also be a doddle to charge, with 800-volt EV architecture supporting 350 kW DC (you’ll need to find an ultra-rapid charger, and they’re mostly located at motorway services) which can take the battery from 10-80% in just 24 minutes. An efficiency-boosting heat pump comes as standard.

You also get Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) tech, which lets you power external devices, which will come in handy when you need to blow up the air bed when you go away camping for the weekend.

Style wise, the GT is marked out as different in the EV9 line-up with a GT steering wheel, sports seats, digital lighting on the front grille, and exclusive 21-inch alloys.

You also get larger front brake callipers in neon green.

Other standard-fit equipment includes a triple-screen panoramic display, a head-up display, privacy glass, a front sunroof that tilts and slides, a static panoramic glass roof at the back with an electric blind, heated and ventilated front seats, a smart power tailgate, and a 333-litres of luggage space behind the rear-most seats.

Order books for the Kia EV9 GT are open now and you’ll be able to lease one in the coming days.

The new Kia EV6 GT

For a while now, you’ve been able to lease the smaller, more coupe-like Kia EV6 in performance ‘GT’ trim, with those models having first been launched back in 2022.

Having had a brief hiatus from the EV6 roster, the range-topping GT is now back - and it’s more powerful than ever.

If you thought the Kia EV9 GT was quick, then get a load of the EV6 GT.

The power figure now stands at 641 bhp (a full 64 bhp more than the last EV6 GT) as well as 770 Nm of torque (up 30 Nm on its predecessor).

It means the Kia EV6 GT can scorch from 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and then on to a top speed of 161 mph.

To put that acceleration figure into context, it’s actually quicker than a Porsche Taycan 4S Saloon while the EV6 GT is a good £35,000 cheaper than the premium Porsche, with the Kia beginning at £59,985.

Besides the power update, the facelifted Kia EV6 GT also gets revised styling both inside and out as well as new tech.

The battery pack is bigger than before, with the new 84 kWh unit 8.5% larger than the previous generation and offering a range of up to 279 miles between charges. Rapid charging at 350 kW DC enables a 10-80% top up in just 18 minutes.

Like the EV9 GT (see above), the EV6 GT also gets Kia’s Virtual Gear Shift technology, which aims to simulate a six-speed paddle-operated transmission. It’s a controversial system, but could add to the grin factor if it floats your boat.

The ‘GT Mode’ sharpens up the steering and throttle response and changes the theme of the 12.3-inch driver display screen.

The suspension has been re-tuned to soften the ride slightly to boost long-distance comfort. The EV6 GT is, after all, a grand tourer.

Equipment fitted as standard includes 21-inch alloys, neon green brake callipers, black artificial suede bucket seats with green stitching, heated and ventilated front seats and heated outer seats in the rear, a 12.3-inch curved driver display screen and 12.3-inch curved touchscreen navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a head-up display.

You also get an Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) as standard for improved handling as well as a heat pump.
