Volvo EX90 Review
A class-leading luxury electric SUV — once the software gets updated. Find out more about the Volvo EX90 in our review!
The all-electric Volvo EX90 offers exceptional safety and practicality - all wrapped-up in a luxurious, premium package. Seven seats come as standard with an EX90 SUV lease, as does a full suite of driver assistance and safety systems.
In fact, the Swedish manufacturer says the EX90 is essentially a ‘highly advanced computer on wheels’ which sets a standard of safety ‘higher than any Volvo car before it’.
Read moreA rival to battery-powered SUVs like the BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and the Jaguar I-Pace, the EX90 replaces the traditionally-fuelled XC90 in the Volvo range.
At the heart of the EX90 is a 111 kWh battery generating power of up to 517 hp and 910 Nm of torque. That’s a larger battery than the 100 kWh unit in the Long Range Tesla Model X.
And you can also enjoy a range of up to 373 miles on a single charge with the EX90 - which puts it just ahead of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV in terms of how far it can travel before it needs to be plugged in once more.
Fast charging at speeds up to 250 kW DC means you’ll be able to replenish the EX90’s battery from 10% to 80% full in under 30 minutes.
The EX90 is also Volvo’s first car with ‘bi-directional charging’ capabilities - where you can use your car battery as an extra energy supply, for example to power your home or other electrical devices.
Meanwhile safety was at the forefront of minds when Volvo’s engineers designed the EX90.
It benefits from a bank of cameras, radars and lidars which create a 360 degree digital view of the world around the SUV - and which means it can detect impending dangers while giving you time to prepare and adapt to them.
Clever sensors inside the cabin will also monitor the driver to ensure they stay safe, intervening if they’re distracted, or even taken ill, while at the wheel.
The interior also features a large 14.5 inch infotainment screen and a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
The EX90 is hardware-ready for fully-autonomous driving in the future.
And with zero emissions at the tailpipe, the EX90 is a sensible choice for business lease customers, as it attracts a low 2% Benefit in Kind (BIK) company car tax rate until 2025.
