Audi Q5 e-hybrid: the perfect all-rounder?

  • New Audi Q5 e-hybrid revealed
  • Plug-in hybrid with 62-mile EV range
  • Available as Q5 SUV and Q5 Sportback
  • Replaces the Q5 TFSI e PHEV
  • Prices start at £56,740 with first deliveries in September

Audi has launched the new plug-in hybrid Q5 - and it could be a perfect ‘all-rounder’ for plenty of lease customers, according to the German manufacturer.

You can already lease the Audi Q5 with a PHEV powertrain in the form of the Q5 TFSI e, which gets an EV range of up to 38 miles.

That TFSI e model is, however, being replaced with this - the ‘e-hybrid’ - which gets a larger 25.9 kWh battery for a range of up to 62 miles.

When you combine that range with power of 299 PS, 450 Nm of torque, confidence-boosting ‘quattro’ all-wheel drive, and the ability to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 6.2 seconds, you’re looking at a lease vehicle that ticks an awful lot of boxes.

As Audi points out, the Q5 e-hybrid boasts ‘space, versatility, and suitability for everyday use’.

The Q5 e-hybrid will be available in both the regular SUV and the more coupe-like ‘Sportback’ body shapes.

That 25.9 kWh battery is supported by a traditional 2.0-litre petrol engine and power is channelled to all wheels via a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

There are two drive modes; EV and Hybrid.

In EV mode, the Q5 e-hybrid runs on electric power alone and gets a top speed of 87 mph.

The Hybrid button ‘maintains a specific charge level as needed in order to save enough electrical energy for later use’, says Audi, while also taking your planned route into consideration. Paddles on the steering wheel control the level of regenerative braking.

Compared with the outgoing Q5 TFSI e, Audi has also tinkered with the exterior looks and chassis set-up.

Audi’s ‘S Sports’ suspension comes as standard, as does 19-inch alloys, LED lights and Audi’s curved ‘MMI experience plus’ infotainment system.

Another nice touch is the sliding rear bench of seats, which can be adjusted depending on whether you’re prioritising boot space or legroom in the back.

With the rear seats unmoved, the SUV gets a 438-litre luggage space while the Sportback has slightly less at 433 litres.

When it comes to charging, three-phase 11 kW AC can take the battery from flat to full in 2.5 hours.

The Audi Q5 e-hybrid is due to become available to lease in the coming weeks with prices beginning at £56,740 and with first customer deliveries pencilled-in for September 2025.

Rivals will include the BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and the Lexus NX.
