Electric Smart #3 prepares for launch

The shark-nosed Smart #3 is here to ‘stir up the premium EV segment’ - and it arrives in a matter of days!

We first caught a glimpse of the fully-electric Smart #3 in September this year, when the Mercedes-Benz-owned brand unveiled it as a bigger sibling to the more compact Smart #1.

Order books for the #3 are set to open early in 2024, with prices to buy outright beginning at an attractive £32,950.

And now Smart has revealed precisely what lease customers can expect from the various trim levels, with the #3 set to throw-down the gauntlet to other electric crossovers like the Volkswagen ID.5, Peugeot e-3008, and the new Renault Scenic E-Tech.

Let’s start with the most potent Smart #3 first - the range-topping, super-hot ‘Brabus’ model.

The all-wheel drive rocket has power of 428 PS and can hit 62mph from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds - which makes it as quick as the £110,000 Porsche Taycan GTS. You also get a range of up to 258 miles.

At the opposite end of the leasing spectrum, the entry-level grade is called ‘Pro’ - and it’s an attractive lease vehicle indeed.

Power of 271 PS comes via a 49 kWh battery, which unlocks a range of up to 202 miles as well as a very decent 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds.

You can also expect, as standard on the most affordable Pro model, a wealth of kit such as a 12.8-inch full HD touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, parking sensors all round, a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags.

Besides the bottom-rung Pro and summit Brabus, there are three other trims to consider - ‘Pro+’, ‘Premium’, and the limited run ‘25th Anniversary Edition’.

From the Pro+ grade and up, you get a larger 66 kWh battery and a range of up to 283 miles between visits to the plug.

And from the Premium level and above you also get added goodies like automatic parking assist, a 10.25-inch head-up display, and adaptive high beam.

On all versions of the Smart #3, a 370-litre boot is decent, but not as cavernous as in the VW ID.5 or Renault Scenic E-Tech, while you can also enjoy a panoramic ‘halo’ roof.

A spokesperson for the manufacturer said: “Continuing Smart’s ethos of efficient use of space with premium packaging, the #3 offers larger proportions, more athletic curves, a powerful ‘shark nose’, and slim LED headlights, standing out as a striking yet elegant everyday companion.”

We’ll bring you leasing prices as and when get them. In the meantime, you can lease the Smart #1 with Select Car Leasing from £428 per month*.

*Prices include VAT. Credit is Subject to Status, Ts and Cs and Arrangement Fees apply. Excess mileage may apply. Stock levels and prices correct as of 06/12/23.

From the initial contact through to delivery it’s been a great experience with Select. Ronnie was quick to respond to my enquiry and provide the information needed to make a quick decision. She and other colleagues also followed up throughout the process to make sure I knew what was happening and to make sure I was ready for delivery and all was ok when the car arrived. The customer portal they have for the process is also easy to use. I’ve been really happy with the experience and would definitely recommend Select if you’re looking to lease a car.
