New high-performance British off-roader revealed

Behold the Callum Skye, a new fully-electric British off-roader that’s truly built for the tough stuff.

Callum is a well-respected UK engineering firm, headquartered in Warwick, that has designed all sorts of products, spanning the automotive, lifestyle, and travel industries.

The company was founded by Ian Callum, a former Director of Design at Jaguar and who also had a hand in creating cars like the Aston Martin DB7, Aston Martin Vanquish, the original Ford Puma, and the electric Jaguar I-PACE.

That’s not a bad CV, is it?

And now Callum has launched its first own-brand vehicle, fully developed in-house, in the form of the Callum Skye.

It’s a striking-looking vehicle, with a radical exterior that’s giving off Tesla Cybertruck vibes, albeit in miniature.

The all-wheel drive Skye is underpinned by a 42 kWh battery that unlocks an electric range of up to 170 miles, with the option to specify an ultra-fast charging battery for full charge in under ten minutes.

It weighs just 1,150kg, and so goes like the clappers, accelerating from 0-62mph in less than four seconds.

Ian Callum explains: “At four metres long, the Callum Skye is dramatically proportioned with a concise exterior aesthetic driven by its capabilities. It has been designed to exceed expectations: minimal mass, maximum capability – exceptionally usable and an absolute joy to drive.”

There’s a function to the form, too. The bottom of the doors are finished in glass, giving drivers good visibility of the terrain they’re trying to negotiate.

Callum says the Skye is ‘ready for adventure’, whether you’re ‘journeying on meandering roads, grassy paddocks, crisp gravel tracks, pristine sand or snow-clad landscapes’.

Callum says a small number of lucky customers will get their hands on specially ‘curated variants’ of the Skye in spring 2024.

There’s no word on price just yet, but let’s just say that the Callum Skye wouldn’t look amiss surfing the sand dunes of Dubai… a place not exactly known for being poor.

In the meantime, there’s an electric off-roader you can lease right now in the form of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, which can go places other Taycans simply can’t.

From the initial contact through to delivery it’s been a great experience with Select. Ronnie was quick to respond to my enquiry and provide the information needed to make a quick decision. She and other colleagues also followed up throughout the process to make sure I knew what was happening and to make sure I was ready for delivery and all was ok when the car arrived. The customer portal they have for the process is also easy to use. I’ve been really happy with the experience and would definitely recommend Select if you’re looking to lease a car.
