Here’s a closer look at the all-new Nissan Leaf, which is now set to arrive in the Autumn of this year and which will boast an EV range of up to 375 miles.
You’ll need to unlearn everything you thought you knew about the Leaf, which was something of an electric pioneer when it first launched back in 2011.
It’s no longer an understated hatchback - the Leaf is now a trendy hatchback-SUV crossover with an eye-catching coupe-like rear end.

When order books open later this year, the Leaf will do battle with a host of other electric family cars, including the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, Peugeot E-2008 and MG S5 EV.
It’s still a compact car, with a length of 4,350mm actually being shorter than the old Leaf hatchback.
But it’s fair to say the vanilla styling of the old Leaf has been jettisoned for something new entirely.

That ‘fastback’ rear is particularly eye-catching, with a sloping roof that disappears into a ducktail spoiler and with ‘NISSAN’ proudly emblazoned on the boot.
Speaking of the boot, despite the sleek proportions at the back you still get 437 litres of luggage space, which is decent for the class and trumps cars like the Volvo EX30.
It is, then, a do-it-all lease car that Nissan says is ‘designed to meet the everyday needs of a modern family – whether on the school run, heading to work, or going on vacation’.

We now know that the Leaf will be available with a choice of two batteries; a 53 kWh ‘Standard’ range unit or a larger 75 kWh ‘Extended’ range powertrain. The Leaf also sits on the same electric platform as the larger Nissan Ariya.
The Standard brings you a range of up to 270 miles while the Extended boosts that to 375 miles. Again, that stacks up well against competitors, with the Kia EV3 getting a range of up to 372 miles between trips to the plug.
Helpfully, Nissan also says the Leaf will let you travel up to 205 miles when driven solely at motorway speeds.

The new Leaf will support rapid charging at up to 150 kW DC, which can recover up to 260 miles in just 30 minutes. Clever battery thermal management works in tandem with the In-Car Route Planner by Google Maps to automatically set the battery at the optimal temperature when approaching a fast charger, making sure you get optimum charging speeds.
There’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality (which lets you use the car’s battery to power external devices, like your camping kettle) as well as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) compatibility (which lets you send stored energy back to the grid to help lower your electricity bills).

Trim level details are still to be revealed but, depending on which model you choose to lease, you’ll be able to enjoy twin 14.3-inch screens, a power liftgate, roof rails, a panoramic roof with dimming glass, a BOSE sound system, and 18-inch alloys.
Standard-fit safety tech includes Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and a Driver Monitor System.

The other nice thing to note is that the Leaf will be built right here in the UK, rolling off the factory floor at Nissan’s facility in Sunderland alongside the Nissan Juke and Nissan Qashqai.
Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President at Nissan, said: “With the all-new Leaf, we are delivering an electric vehicle that blends elegance, confidence, and breakthrough range - wrapped in a design that’s as smart as it is emotional. It brings the best of Nissan innovation to the mainstream, and we’re incredibly excited to introduce it to European roads.”
