Volkswagen’s grown-up successor to the ID.3 will get a range of up to 391 miles… while looking more like a VW Golf than ever before.
What you’re looking at here is the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo - an evolution of the ID.3 first launched back in 2020.
Order books are due to open imminently and it’ll have a range of up to 391 miles between charges - a good 20 miles more than the current ID.3.
Here’s everything you need to know, while we await pricing details and UK spec.

What is the VW ID.3 Neo?
The VW ID.3 Neo is the successor to the existing ID.3.
And that ‘Neo’ name ushers-in lots of new elements, from the design to the tech.
What’s immediately obvious is that the ID.3 Neo has moved closer to the VW Golf when it comes to exterior looks.

VW talks about a ‘Pure Positive’ design language that makes the ID.3 Neo appear longer, flatter and more dynamic than the current ID.3.
There’s a continuous light strip and illuminated logo at the front, too, which adds to the ID.3’s grown up new stance.

What range does the VW ID.3 Neo have?
The VW ID.3 Neo will be available to lease with a choice of three batteries; the entry-level 50 kWh unit, the mid-range 58 kWh, or the larger 79 kWh pack.
The 50 kWh battery brings you power of 170 PS.
The 58 kWh unlocks 190 PS.
And your 79 kWh option unlocks a very decent oomph of 231 PS.

The two smaller batteries support fast charging at up to 105 kW, which isn’t ground-breaking but should be decent enough, while the 79 kWh unit ups the charging speed to 183 kW DC.
VW hasn’t revealed the range figures for the 50 kWh or 58 kWh batteries just yet but the German firm has told us that the ID.3 Neo with the biggest battery will be able to journey up to 391 miles between charges.

What about a sporty ID.3 Neo? The current ID.3 is available in hot GTX trim and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.
There’s no word about a spicy ID.3 Neo model just yet, but we’d expect one to be announced in due course.

What new tech does the VW ID.3 Neo have?
Volkswagen has thrown a ton of new tech systems at the new ID.3 Neo.
All models get vehicle-to-load skills, which let you power to external devices (‘from electric barbeques to e-bikes’, VW explains) while one-pedal driving will also be possible (where the vehicle recuperates kinetic energy until the car comes to a standstill).

The cabin has been overhauled and displays a ‘new level of quality and clarity’, VW boasts.
There will be chunky physical buttons, a flattened steering wheel, and an infotainment system that comprises a 12.9-inch central screen and a 10.25-inch digital cockpit.

Meanwhile the list of optional equipment includes an augmented-reality head-up display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
UK specification and prices for the ID.3 Neo will be confirmed soon.

What are the main rivals to the VW ID.3 Neo?
The ID.3 Neo will sit in VW’s range ahead of the smaller ID. Polo and behind the larger ID.4 and will compete with a slew of existing foes.
They include the CUPRA Born, Renault Megane E-Tech, Kia EV3, Skoda Elroq and the MG4 EV.
