VW ID.7 Tourer estate gets full reveal

Need an electric alternative to the Volkswagen Passat? Here you go, check out the new VW ID.7 Tourer estate instead.

We have, of course, already been treated to the ID.7 saloon, a car that became available late last year.

In the coming weeks, however, you’ll also be able to order the more practical ID.7 Tourer, which takes the luggage capacity up to 605 litres while still offering a eye-opening range of up to 425 miles between charges.

Fold down the rear seats and you’ll also unlock a hefty 1,714 litres of luggage space.

VW reckons the ID.7 Tourer is ‘one of the first electric estate cars in the upper mid-sized class’, and it’s true that there’s a bit of a death of big, battery-powered load-luggers in the leasing market right now.

For rivals, though, you’re looking at cars like the BMW i5 Touring and the Peugeot E-308 SW estate.

And when it comes to styling, VW says the ID.7 leans heavily on both its Passat Estate and the head-turning Arteon Shooting Brake estate.

When the ID.7 Tourer goes on sale this spring, it’ll be available with two different battery sizes, the largest of which will be able to travel for up to 425 miles between trips to the plug.

Super fast 200 kW charging DC stations also means you can get the battery back to 80 per cent full in ‘significantly less than 30 minutes’, says VW.

The other good news is that the ID.7 Tourer comes as standard with an augmented reality head-up display, while pressure-point massaging ego seats and a panoramic sunroof are also up for grabs.

Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, says: “The new ID.7 Tourer is a perfect estate model, especially for families and long-distance drivers. With plenty of space and a high level of comfort, it impresses fully electrically with long ranges!”

The ID.7 Tourer will be produced together with the ID.7 fastback saloon and the ID.4 SUV at the electric mobility plant in Emden, Germany.
