Honda is preparing to launch a small electric car that aims to make everyday driving feel anything but routine.

Known as the Super-N, the compact EV has been conceived as a more playful alternative in a segment often defined by restraint, combining modest proportions with an emphasis on driver enjoyment.

Honda Super-N: Design and inspiration

The Super-N draws heavily on the spirit of the 1980s Honda City Turbo II (it was never sold here in the UK but folks have imported them) reinterpreted for the electric age.

Its wide stance, pronounced bumpers and functional aerodynamic details give it a purposeful look that hints at its more spirited character without tipping into pastiche.

Honda’s designers have aimed to create something that feels immediately appealing, intuitive and quietly exciting before the car has even turned a wheel.

Inside, the theme continues with redesigned, supportive seats and a cabin accented with blue highlights as a nod to its predecessor. Ambient lighting shifts depending on the driving mode, glowing blue under normal conditions and turning a deeper purple when the car’s more aggressive settings are engaged.

Honda Super-N: Performance and driving experience

The Super-N has been engineered with engagement in mind, following Honda’s long-standing ‘Man Maximum, Machine Minimum’ philosophy.

Central to this is a BOOST mode that temporarily increases output from 47kW to 70kW, offering a noticeable boost in performance.

Despite being fully electric, Honda has attempted to retain some of the emotional appeal of combustion engines.

A simulated seven-speed transmission and an Active Sound Control system are designed to add a layer of interaction that is often absent in EVs. At the same time, the car’s low weight contributes to more responsive handling.

Engineers have conducted extensive testing in both Japan and the UK, tuning the car to suit a range of road surfaces and driving conditions.

Honda Super-N: Battery and range

The Super-N is geared primarily towards urban use, with a claimed range of up to 199 miles in city driving. In a combined cycle, that figure drops to 128 miles, placing it firmly in the category of a daily commuter rather than a long-distance cruiser.

However, it still offers enough flexibility for occasional trips beyond town or city limits.

Honda Super-N: Price and availability

The car is set to arrive in the UK in July, with a starting price of under £20,000. That positions it as one of the more accessible entries into the electric car market, particularly at a time when affordability remains a key barrier for many buyers.

Honda is placing a strong emphasis on individuality, with a wide range of colour choices and customisation options available.

Buyers will be able to opt for a two-tone finish with a contrasting black roof and rear spoiler, along with a selection of exterior graphics designed to give the car a more distinctive identity in an increasingly crowded EV landscape.

Honda Super-N: Main rivals

It's fair to say that the Honda Super-N is going win admirers thanks to its funky styling as opposed to any long-distance range capabilities.

So, it'll swim in the same leasing circles as cars like the BYD Dolphin Surf, Dacia Spring and the soon-to-arrive electric Renault Twingo
