You can’t keep a good supermini down - which is why Fiat is putting its iconic, petrol-powered 500 hatchback back into production.
Back in August last year, the Fiat 500 was taken off sale as the Italian manufacturer instead focused on the fully-electric Fiat 500e.
That wasn’t brilliant news for those in need of affordable urban motoring and who still weren’t quite ready to join the electric revolution.

But now Fiat says a new 500 Hybrid (fitted with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and mild-hybrid electrification) will go into production - in Italy - by November 2025.
Olivier Francois, Fiat CEO and Stellantis Global CMO, said: “500 Hybrid offers affordable electrification and iconic style, proof that social relevance is at the core of the Brand mission. With the 500 Hybrid, we are strengthening production at Mirafiori to ensure the plant’s productivity and meet the demand. Our roots are in Italy and it’s no coincidence that the two most iconic Fiats are made here: the Panda in Pomigliano and the 500 in Mirafiori.”
The good news doesn't end there, either.

The incoming Fiat 500 Hybrid will boast the same exterior styling as the electric 500e, with its chunkier, more modern front grille and eyes-like headlights.
These first-look pics also show how the new Fiat 500 will feature a more pronounced rear spoiler for a sportier silhouette.
