The five-door Aygo X sits in the Toyota range between the regular Aygo and the slightly larger Yaris, which has also been given the ‘urban SUV’ treatment, producing the Yaris Cross.
Compared to the standard Aygo, the Aygo X is longer, rides higher, and sits on larger 18 inch alloys, giving it a more ‘adventurous’ stance, according to Toyota. It’s also wider than the normal Aygo, providing extra passenger room, and also features a bigger boot, with 231 litres of luggage space.
There’s a new wedged roofline, high-tech lamps at the front which hug the upper bonnet to form a wing-like shape, while, set lower to the ground, the large grille, fog lamps and skid plate all give a nod and a wink to Toyota line-up of no-nonsense SUVs, like the RAV4.
The Aygo X is powered by an efficient 1.0 litre petrol engine producing power of 71 bhp and which will return up to 60 mpg while emitting just 109 g/km of CO2.
Meanwhile base ‘Pure’ models come with great spec as standard, including automatic headlights, heated door mirrors, a 7 inch infotainment screen, full connectivity, as well as a suite of driver assistance tech that includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Lane Departure Alert, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, Collision Mitigation Support, Road Sign Assist and Vehicle Stability Control.
