New Toyota Hilux priced from under £35,000 as range goes Double Cab only

  • New Toyota Hilux readies for launch
  • Set to arrive in the UK this summer
  • Priced from £34,670 plus VAT
  • Electric and diesel hybrid powertrains
  • Exclusively available with double cab

The new Toyota Hilux will be priced from £34,670 plus VAT and on-the-road costs when it arrives in the UK this summer.

The ninth-generation Hilux will initially be available in all-electric BEV form, with diesel-powered hybrid models following shortly after.

Diesel or electric power

The diesel range starts with the Hilux Diesel 48V Active, priced from £34,670 excluding VAT, rising to £44,045 for the range-topping Invincible X.

Diesel models use Toyota’s 48V mild-hybrid system. Full technical details are still to be confirmed, but the setup is expected to remain unchanged from the existing 2.8-litre diesel, which produces 204hp and 500Nm of torque.

For most pick-up buyers, the diesel Hilux is likely to remain the more practical option, especially for towing, long-distance work and rural use.

Toyota will also offer a fully electric version of the new Hilux. The Hilux BEV Icon is priced at £57,845 including VAT, before the £5,000 plug-in van grant is applied. With the grant, the effective price should fall to £52,845.

That makes it look competitive against other electric pick-ups, although there is an important caveat. The electric Hilux will have a payload of less than one tonne, which will affect whether some VAT-registered buyers can treat it as a commercial vehicle in the same way as diesel pick-ups.

Toyota hasn’t yet confirmed final payload, towing, range or charging figures for the electric Hilux. However, we expect a range of around 150–170 miles, a payload of roughly 715kg and a towing capacity limited to 1.6 tonnes.

That means the electric Hilux is unlikely to suit heavy-duty pick-up users, but it could appeal to fleets and businesses with predictable daily mileage, depot charging and lighter-duty work.

Double Cab only

The new Hilux will be sold only as a Double Cab in the UK, meaning single-cab and extended-cab versions will no longer be offered, removing a more traditional working-truck option for buyers who prioritise load-bed length over rear seats.

However, a two-seat commercial conversion of the double cab is expected to follow later in 2026.

Equipment and trim levels

All versions of the new Hilux get a significantly upgraded cabin and improved safety technology. Entry-level Active models include Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistance technology, a digital display, a rear deck step, and electric power steering. Icon adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch multimedia system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless phone charging.

Invincible versions gain part-leather upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a 12-inch digital driver display and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. At the top of the range, Invincible X adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a high-over bar, drop-in load liner, JBL premium audio, heated rear seats and a Multi-Terrain Monitor for off-road driving.

The electric Hilux range is simpler, with just Icon and Invincible trims available.

Thanks alot to Peter for his diligent help. He found cars to my spec, suggested other models and eventually found something that exceeded my expectations. I shopped around but the price he found was the best by far!
