Wagoneer S set to be quickest Jeep EVER

Behold the new Wagoneer S - a fully-electric head-turner that’s set to become the fastest-accelerating Jeep in history.

But first, a history lesson.

Back in 2018, Jeep unleashed the supercharged Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (below), a monstrous people-mover packing a 6.2-litre V8 engine borrowed from a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

It had power of 700bhp, an acceleration time of 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds, and was at the time one of the world’s quickest SUVs. You might recall telly's Richard Hammond blatting about the place in one during the RV road trip episode of Amazon's The Grand Tour

Only 20 examples of the Cherokee Trackhawk made their way to the UK, and we haven’t seen the likes of it since. Until now…

Unlike the Trackhawk, the Wagoneer S is no gas-guzzler. It’s a modern electric SUV that ‘radiates a seamless integration of art with technology’, says Jeep.

And while it has less outright power than the Trackhawk, at 600bhp, it’ll whistle from zero to 62mph in just 3.5 seconds.

In anybody’s books, that’s supercar rapid. It’s quicker than the new Aston Martin DB12, to give you just one example.

The Wagoneer S is built on the ‘STLA-Large’ electric platform which has been pioneered by Jeep’s parent company Stellantis and which will also be used on premium electric Alfa Romeos and Maseratis in the near future.

The interior should be suitably swanky, too.

A Jeep spokesperson tells us: “The new Jeep Wagoneer S interior features premium technology seamlessly integrated with meticulously crafted artisan details. Mindful materials and design-focused features include a tailored driver control centre with a unique Jeep brand-exclusive Selec-Terrain toggle and dynamic, colour-selectable ambient lighting.”

A panoramic roof will be standard, while a ‘segment-exclusive’ McIntosh audio system with 19 speakers will also be up for grabs.

The Wagoneer S is due to arrive in the UK next year, where it’ll take aim at heavyweights like the BMW iX, Audi Q8 e-tron, and the new Porsche Macan EV.
