- Alpine A390 spotted testing ahead of full debut
- Electric sport fastback is honed for the track
- Gets full-on ‘Track Mode’ and Active Torque Vectoring
- Power and battery details still to come

The Alpine A390 is an electric sports fastback that’s being honed for serious track use - and it’s about to get its full debut.
Alpine, the French performance brand owned by Renault, is on something of a roll right now, with the compact A290 hot-hatch being named European Car of the Year 2025 (alongside its Renault 5 E-Tech sibling).

And if the A290 offers sharp thrills in a pint-sized package, the A390 dials things up a notch.
It’s referred to as a ‘sport fastback’ by Alpine, which means it sits somewhere between an SUV and a coupe. Silhouette-wise, it’s very similar to the Polestar 2.

But with a focus on adrenaline-inducing thrills and race circuit competitiveness, the Alpine A390 will also take aim at cars like the Porsche Macan Electric.
It’s pictured here in disguised form being piloted around a wet track in the French Alps ahead of a proper debut May 27th.

There’s no official word yet when it comes to battery size or power, but you can expect it to be more potent than the 220 PS Alpine A290 hatchback.
It gets Alpine Active Torque Vectoring (which redistributes engine power to individual wheels for improved traction) as well as five different driving modes. One of those is, of course, ‘Track Mode’, which adjusts the settings of the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to unleash the A390’s maximum potential.

The A390 is shod with specific tyres developed jointly with Michelin, identifiable by their A39 marking: 20-inch Pilot Sport EV, 21-inch Pilot Sport 4S.
There are also two specific Alpine Drive Sounds which are channeled through the car’s audio system for a more sensory experience. The sportiest one apes the engine din from the traditionally-fuelled Alpine A110 while the other one is more sedate. You can turn the sound off completely if it’s not your cup of tea.
