The Suffolk office of Select Car Leasing is celebrating three seasons sponsoring local football team Sporting 87 - as it looks forward to a fourth.
Sporting 87 Football Club are based in Bury St Edmunds and play at the town’s Victory Ground.
The club has three adult teams as well as 24 youth teams, from Under 8s to U18s.
Since 2022, Sporting 87 has been backed by Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds, headed by directors Alan Beckett and Tony Davis.
And as a show of their support, Alan and Tony were on hand at Sporting 87’s first team awards evening to hand out ‘player of the year’ awards.
The club even welcomed Darren Moore - an experienced former player with West Bromwich Albion and Derby County and current manager of newly-promoted League One side Port Vale - as a guest speaker.
Alan Beckett, Principal at Select Car leasing Bury St Edmunds Office, said: “Sporting 87 isn’t just a football club, it’s a community based charity that provides opportunities for all to play the beautiful game.
“There are more than 700 players on the club’s books, across all age groups, and Sporting 87 also goes into local schools to deliver lessons and after-hours clubs.
“We are proud to be sponsors of such a well run club. And Tony and I were thrilled to attend the end-of-season awards night and to hear about some of the first team’s stand-out players.
“We look forward to continuing our support of Sporting 87 into the 25-26 season and beyond.”
Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds handed the coveted ‘Young Player of the Year’ award to goalkeeper Noah Moss - the first time in the club’s history that gong has gone to a ‘keeper.
Select was also presented with a commemorative gift - a framed compilation of match day programmes from Sporting 87’s season.
As the name suggests, Sporting 87 was founded in 1987.
The first team plays at the highest level of County football and is currently working towards entering the Non League pyramid - which brings exciting new opportunities for the club, including competing in the FA Cup and FA Vase.
Founded as a single Adult men’s Church team, Sporting 87 is still underpinned by its Christian ethos of ‘helping people be better at football, but also better at life’.
First Team manager Jon Warnock said: “We are so grateful for the continued sponsorship and support of Alan and the team at Select Car Leasing. They have not just been financial supporters of the work we do but are a constant practical support to our events also and a key part of the club.”
Alan Beckett and Tony Davis previously founded ‘Genus Leasing’ in 2001 before joining the Select Car Leasing fold as an Appointed Representative in 2020.
Select Car Leasing sponsors the club dugout, have a pitchside board, and feature in the Sporting 87 match-day programme at every home game.
