Audi unveils new plug-in hybrid A6 models

  • New Audi A6 plug-in hybrid models revealed
  • PHEV treatment for A6 Saloon and A6 Avant estate
  • Fresh ‘e-hybrid’ models replace outgoing ‘TFSI e’ variants
  • Power of 299 PS and 64-mile EV range
  • Order books open June 2025

Audi is preparing to launch new plug-in hybrid variants of its A6 Saloon and A6 Avant estate - and they’ll come with a range of up to 64 miles using electricity alone.

The A6 has been enjoying a major facelift in 2025, with big improvements when it comes to aerodynamics and comfort levels.

And now a pair of plug-in hybrid variants have been added to the mix, with the executive vehicles offering both performance and efficiency.

The first thing we need to point out here is another Audi naming convention change. The previous A6 plug-in hybrids were given the label ‘A6 TFSI e’. That slightly tricky moniker has been ditched in favour of the much-simpler tag ‘e-hybrid’.

Both the A6 Saloon and A6 Avant e-hybrids are underpinned by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 25.9 kWh battery that’s 45% bigger than the last unit fitted in a PHEV A6.

It all adds up to power of 299 PS, 450 Nm of torque, an acceleration time of 0-62 mph in 6.0 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph. Quattro all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering also come as standard.

The A6 Saloon gets a 64-mile EV range while the A6 Avant makes do with 63 miles. In EV mode, vehicle speed is limited to 87mph.

Meanwhile 11 kW AC charging can take the battery from flat to full in as little as 2.5 hours.

Audi says it has significantly increased regenerative braking performance in the new A6 e-hybrid quattro compared with the previous incarnation, which means more power in the battery when you eventually flick it into ‘EV Mode’. You can adjust the recuperation level via steering-wheel paddles.

Like the regular A6 Saloon and A6 Avant, the A6 e-hybrid quattro will be available to lease in three distinct trim levels; Sport, S Line and Edition 1.

Entry-level Sport models get 18-inch alloys, LED Matrix headlights, 4-zone air con, twin-spoke leather steering wheel, leather seats, a 14.5-inch touchscreen with sat nav and 11.9-inch digital cockpit, wireless phone charging, surround view cameras, self-parking tech, and a raft of safety systems including adaptive cruise control.

The S Line trim adds larger 19-inch alloys, lowered Sport suspension, S Line exterior style flourishes including privacy glass and a three-spoke flattened steering wheel.

Edition 1 variants boast 20-inch rims, Audi’s ‘Black’ exterior style package, dark chrome exhaust pipes, red brake callipers, front sport seats, and uprated safety tech including lane departure warning with emergency assist.

Order books are due to open June 2025 with first deliveries in the late summer. Leasing rivals to the plug-in hybrid Audi A6 remain cars like the BMW 5 Series and Lexus ES
