Good news! A more affordable version of the sleek Kia EV6 is about to hit the leasing market.
The EV6 is Kia’s svelte SUV-coupe, a car that sits in the firm’s range between the smaller EV3 and the larger, seven-seat EV9.
The entry-level trim is called ‘Air’ and up until now it’s only been available with the larger 84 kWh battery (priced from £45,585).
But now Kia is putting a smaller 63 kWh ‘Standard Range’ unit into the Air derivative of the EV6, which brings the price down to £39,235 and, crucially, puts it at a price point below the luxury car tax surcharge.
It’s rear-wheel drive and you still get a range of up to 265 miles between charges as well as power of 167 bhp, which enables it to accelerate from 0-to-62mph in 8.7 seconds and then on to a top speed of 115 mph.
The smaller battery means the car is slightly lighter on its feet, lowering the car’s kerb weight to 1,955kg. The insurance group for the new entry-level model is also reduced, to 29E, further aiding affordability for cost-conscious lease customers.
You also still get 800V electric architecture, which supports 350 kW DC rapid charging and lets you take the energy in the battery from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
A Kia EV6 lease in Standard Range Air form will also come well equipped as standard.
Expect 19-inch alloys, LED headlamps, heated front seats and steering wheel, Smart Cruise Control with stop/go functionality, twin 12.3-inch curved displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a choice of paint finishes that include the ‘Interstellar Grey’ you can see in these pics.
Customer deliveries are due to start later this month - so watch this space for lease deals.
Rivals to a Kia EV6 lease include the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
