- New Isuzu D-Max EV unveiled
- Electric pick-up gets 163-mile range
- 1-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing
- Full-time 4x4 just like diesel D-Max
- Revealed at this week’s Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham
Here’s your first look at the fully electric new Isuzu D-Max pick-up, which will arrive early next year with a 163-mile range and 1-tonne payload.
The diesel D-Max recently enjoyed a fairly major facelift (we went off-roading in one, read that report here), a revamp that brought new looks, better tech and more adept off-road skills.
And now Isuzu has thrown the sheets off the D-Max EV - a pick-up that promises to reduce your fuel and tax bills while boasting the same load-lugging abilities as its traditionally-fuelled sibling.
So, you get a 1,000 kg payload, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and full-time 4x4.
But rather than a 1.9-litre diesel engine, the D-Max EV instead gets a 66.9 kWh battery which unlocks power of 190 PS, 325 Nm of torque, and a range of up to 163 miles between charges.
To put those stats into perspective, the D-Max gets more power than the diesel version (which has 164 PS) but less torque (the diesel enjoys 360 Nm).
Acceleration from 0-62 mph goes by in 10.1 seconds and you get a top speed of ‘over 80mph’.
That 163-mile range figure isn’t particularly Earth-shattering, but when you consider that the D-Max is very much an agricultural workhorse built for blatting across ploughed fields and forest tracks, rather than cruising on the motorway, it should be ample for most.
Rapid charging maxes out at a modest 50 kW DC, which means a 20–80% charge will take around an hour.
But on the plus side, Isuzu has honed the suspension system for the D-Max EV, replacing the traditional leaf spring set-up with an all-new De-Dion rear suspension (a tubular system that holds the wheels in parallel) for better comfort.
An Isuzu spokesperson adds: “Full-time 4x4 with multi-level regenerative braking and Eco Mode, which extends the vehicle range, provide a perfect balance of power and efficiency, while water wading up to 600mm, ground clearance of 210mm, and impressive off-road approach and departure angles (30.5° and 24.2° respectively) ensure the D-Max EV is ready for any terrain.”
You’ll be able to lease one in either Extended Cab or Double Cab form and they’ll come in either DL40 or V-Cross trims.
The entry-level DL40 models will get chrome styling, an 8-inch infotainment, 7-inch driver information display, heated front seats, Bi-LED headlights, leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors, a 6-speaker premium sound, and Isuzu’s fabulous ‘Rough Terrain Mode’.
The V-Cross trim adds dark grey styling, a larger 9-inch infotainment system, and an improved sound system.
Order books for the Isuzu D-Max EV will open in the second half of 2025 with the first models arriving in the UK in February 2026.
Besides the D-Max EV, Isuzu has also been showing off the all-singing, all-dancing Arctic Trucks AT35 version of the D-Max.
It gets the same 1.9-litre diesel engine as the regular D-Max, but there’s ‘extreme off-road capability and rugged design’, says Isuzu.
It features flared wheel arches, 35-inch all-terrain tyres, Bilstein suspension, raised ride height, 4WD system and rear differential lock. You also still get the obligatory 1-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne pulling power.
You’ll be able to lease one with Select imminently.
