Skoda targets fleets with SUV-based Enyaq Cargo electric van

  • Skoda launches first all-electric commercial vehicle
  • Skoda Enyaq Cargo available with all-wheel drive
  • Range of up to 359 miles
  • Qualifies for same tax treatment as any other van

Skoda has launched its first all-electric commercial vehicle. Based on its popular electric SUV, the Enyaq Cargo offers a fully compliant light commercial vehicle for fleet buyers.

The concept for the Enyaq Cargo began in 2024, when National Grid Energy Distribution commissioned Skoda and engineering firm Strongs Plastic Products to convert some Enyaq SUVs for use by its engineering crews.

Reclassified by the DVSA as light commercial vehicles, the vehicles were fitted with lightweight, high-strength bulkheads with customised load areas.

Seventy converted Enyaq vans are now operated by National Grid, with more expected to follow as the company pushes forward with its plan to replace more of its existing fleet with zero-emission vehicles. National Grid is already one of the UK’s largest EV fleet operators, with 600 electric cars and 300 electric vans in service.

Skoda Enyaq Cargo 2025

With the project proving so successful, Skoda and Strongs have now developed the Enyaq Cargo as a production-ready electric van for the open market.

To ensure the Enyaq Cargo is fully compliant with light commercial vehicle regulations, the development process was completed in close cooperation with the DVSA, ensuring the new model is registered as an LCV from the outset.

That means it qualifies for the same tax treatment, regulations and operational advantages as any other commercial van on the market.

Available in two forms, the Enyaq Cargo is based on the rear-wheel-drive Enyaq 85 and the all-wheel-drive Enyaq 85x.

Like their passenger model counterparts, they have a range of up to 359 and 332 miles, respectively. Rapid charging capabilities also remain, with charging from 10% to 80% taking as little as 28 minutes using high-power DC chargers, thanks to peak speeds of 135kW and 175kW.

Lightweight, durable plastics are used inside to create the purpose-built cargo area, with a solid bulkhead separating the cabin and the load space, maximising safety and comfort for the driver and passenger.

The layout has been designed with flexibility in mind, offering fleet customers the option to tailor the rear space to their specific operational needs.

The Enyaq Cargo, which is available to order now, is offered exclusively to fleet buyers through Skoda’s Area Fleet Managers. Prices for the Enyaq 85 start at £44,310 on the road, with the commercial conversion priced from £1,815 plus VAT. The final cost will depend on the specification required by each business.
