- Ford unveils new 'Delivery Assist' system
- Helps van drivers claw back valuable time at drop-offs
- Takes over security and safety steps at each stop
- Will be available on Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit models
A new feature being introduced by Ford will help delivery drivers shave vital seconds off stops during their daily routine.
Delivery Assist streamlines the process of stopping, securing the van, and getting back on the road.
Multi-drop drivers have a long checklist at every stop — cutting the engine, switching on hazard lights, and locking the doors. It might not sound much, but each step takes time, something drivers don’t have much of. This tech-based solution from Ford automates those steps, allowing them to get on with delivering the goods.
Delivery Assist steps in and takes care of the security and safety steps at each stop. Once the driver stops and steps away from the vehicle, the system will cut the engine, activate the hazard lights, close any open windows and lock the doors.
With the stop completed, the driver returns to the van and the key-free entry system will unlock the doors. Pressing the brake pedal will restart the engine and reset the windows to the same position.
Drivers can customise the settings, so if they don’t want the doors to lock or the windows to close, a simple swipe will make the changes.
While Delivery Assist will save drivers seconds, it will also add a layer of security. By locking the doors the moment the driver steps away, the van becomes a less attractive target for opportunistic thieves.
Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Pro, Europe: “Delivery Assist makes the driver’s to-do list shorter, their journeys more comfortable, and can cut valuable seconds from each delivery stop to help them deliver more parcels, faster. It’s good for both our customers and their customers – by taking away lots of tiny tasks we are helping to make a big difference.”
Delivery Assist will be available on E-Transit and EcoBlue diesel-powered Transit models and the new E-Transit Custom and automatic Transit Custom vans. The first models with the feature are expected to arrive with customers in the summer of 2025.
