Peugeot set to launch electric new e-308

An all-electric version of Peugeot’s 308 is due to arrive next year, the French firm has confirmed.

The e-308 will join the Peugeot ranks alongside the existing petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid 308.

And with a range of up to 248 miles between charges, alongside 100kW rapid charging capabilities, the e-308 will go head-to-head with the soon-to-be-launched Vauxhall Astra-e as well as the Volkswagen ID.3.

The 308 is already a bit of a winner in our eyes, even before this fully-electric version hits UK roads.

You get super sharp styling, bags of practicality, and it’s affordable, too. You can lease a Peugeot 308 from around £270 per month.

The e-308 is also holding another ace card - it’ll be available as an e-308 SW estate.

As we’ve pointed out on these pages previously, there’s a dearth of proper battery-powered estates in Britain. Right now your choice is pretty much limited to just one - the MG5 EV.

So if you demand acres of luggage space alongside emissions-free motoring, the e-308 SW could very much fit the bill.

Peugeot says the e-308 will be powered by a 54 kWh battery that provides 156 bhp. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we get a hot ‘PSE’, or ‘Peugeot Sport Engineered’, version with even more oomph in due course.

You’ll have a choice of three driving modes, while the ‘Brake’ setting will recover optimum amounts of energy when you lift your foot from the accelerator pedal.

An on-board three-phase 11 kW charger is provided with the car as standard, while you can also exploit 100kW rapid charging, which will power the battery from 20-80% in less than 25 minutes. Make sure you get the most out of every charge by consulting our guide on picking your ideal electric car charger.

Both the e-308 and e-308 SW will have a suite of driver assistance and safety aids, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go function, long-range blind spot monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert, which warns of danger when reversing.

Goodies like a head-up display and heated steering wheel will also be up for grabs, depending on whether you opt for the ‘Allure’ or ‘GT’ trim level.

The e-308 will also get a longer front bonnet than the regular 308 while new 18 inch wheels have been specifically developed for the e-308 to improve aerodynamics.

A Peugeot spokesperson says:

“The introduction of the new Peugeot e-308 and e-308 SW are the latest development in the brand’s aim to offer every vehicle in its line-up with an electrified variant by 2025.”

The new models will be available in the second half of 2023, so watch this space for further updates.
