Jeep ‘Avenger’ will be brand’s first fully electric vehicle

Here’s a new look at Jeep’s first-ever all-electric SUV - called the ‘Avenger’ - and which is heading to the UK next year.

Back in March of this year, Jeep announced that a fully-fledged EV was in the pipeline, and which would join its line-up of ‘4xe’ plug-in hybrid models.

At the time we knew next to nothing about what this electric SUV might offer. In fact, it didn’t even have a name.

But an announcement this week has confirmed that the Jeep Avenger is heading for Europe - while our American cousins will get the electric Jeep ‘Recon’ and the ‘Jeep Wagoneer’ SUVs.

From looking at the brand new pics released by Jeep, the Avenger looks to be a compact SUV to rival the likes of the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Nissan Ariya. There's the whiff of the Range Rover Evoque about it, too.

So what else do we know about the Avenger so far?

Jeep says it’ll be positioned ‘under’ the Jeep Renegade. The Renegade is actually Jeep’s cheapest SUV, so here’s hoping for an affordable price-point with the Avenger.

It’ll be built at a high-efficiency plant in Tychy, Poland.

And Jeep is aiming for a range of 248 miles between charges, which is greater than alternatives like the Volvo XC40 Recharge or the Mazda MX-30 electric crossover.

It should be decent off-road, too, judging by what the Jeep big-wigs have to say. And when it comes to 4x4 prowess, Jeep knows its onions.

A Jeep spokesperson says:

“This new SUV will offer impressive ground clearance, breakover and approach angles for its segment, while delivering a modern and technologically advanced interior, with plenty of space for people and cargo.”

Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Europe at Stellantis, adds:

“This modern, fun and emotional SUV will appeal to a growing set of customers who are looking for a capable, compact, modern and all-electric Jeep brand alternative to the current players.”

The Jeep Avenger will debut during the Paris Motor Show press day, on October 17, and you should be able to lease one by the start of 2023.

If you can’t wait that long, the compact Jeep Renegade 4xe Plug-in Hybrid is also an attractive proposition.

You get a range of up to 26 miles using electricity along with and a solid amount of power, at 240 hp, which translates to a 0-62mph acceleration time of 7.1 seconds.

You can lease a Jeep Renegade 4xe Plug-in Hybrid from around £450 per month*.

This is my second lease car through Select Car Leasing. My Account Manager was Jason Hattingh and I couldn’t have wished for a better person to deal with. From start to finish Jason was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for him during my journey. Everything was clearly explained to me, all phone calls were answered quickly, I received swift responses if I needed information and assistance. Jason’s after sales service proved to be just as positive when I had a minor technical problem which he resolved immediately for me. Jason is an excellent ambassador for Select Car Leasing and his Customer Service skills and support provided are indeed second to none. Many thanks Jason
