- MGS9 launches in UK
- MG’s first 7-seater
- Plug-in hybrid powertrain with 62-mile EV range
- Massive boot, up to 1,000 litres of space
- Affordably priced from £34,205

In need of some affordable family motoring? The new MGS9 is the firm’s first 7-seater and could well fit the bill.
We’ve seen a rash of new three-row hybrid SUVs in recent months, from the Chery Tiggo 9 to the all-new Jaecoo 8.
Like those two aforementioned vehicles, the MGS9 is a versatile plug-in hybrid. It unlocks an EV driving range of up to 62 miles.
Priced from £34,205, it also undercuts a slew of rivals when it comes to price, including the VW Tayron, Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq.
Order books open soon with full UK spec due to be announced later this month.

What is the MGS9 PHEV?
The MGS9 marks MG’s entry into the 7-seat SUV segment - and it’s here to set the cat amongst the pigeons when it comes to well-established favourites like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.
While full UK details are still to be revealed, MG says you’ll be able to enjoy leather-style upholstery, a large panoramic sunroof, heated, ventilated and massaging seats, and tri-zone air conditioning.
Boot space looks to be generous for the class. You get 332 litres with all 7 seats in place. Fold down the third row and there’s a van-like 1,000 litres.
As MG points out, that’s enough for ‘luggage, pets, pushchairs or anything else family life demands’.

Is the MGS9 a plug-in hybrid?
Indeed, the MGS9 is a PHEV that’s underpinned by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 24.7kWh battery that offers an electric range of up to 62 miles.
To put that figure into perspective, the VW Tayron with a PHEV engine manages 75 miles in EV mode while the Jaecoo 8 can travel up to 83 miles.
The PHEV Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe are much pricier than the MG yet offer a lesser EV range of around 34 miles.
So, you can see how the MGS9 makes perfect sense when you do the maths.

Is the MGS9 bigger than the MG HS?
Yes, the MGS9 will be the biggest SUV offered by MG and is described as being both longer and taller than the MG HS (which is a 5-seater).
An MG spokesperson adds: “The all-new MGS9 PHEV delivers enhanced presence and versatility, offering the flexibility of a third row to meet the evolving needs of modern families and lifestyle-driven customers.”
The MGS9 has already been tested by Euro NCAP and achieved the full five-star award, thanks in part to its extensive use of high-strength steel and up to 16 advanced driver assistance technologies.
