Facelifted new CUPRA Born looks moodier than ever

  • Facelift for CUPRA Born
  • Striking new design
  • Better tech and range
  • Performance VZ model still gets 326 PS

The mean and moody CUPRA Born has been given a facelift that makes it look more menacing than ever.

And there are improvements to tech and EV driving range, too.

The Born is CUPRA’s most affordable EV and which sits on the same platform as the VW ID.3.

It’s a car that has always looked up for a scrap (you wouldn’t want to meet one in a dark alley) and the latest nip and tuck makes the Born appear even more aggressive.

The furrowed nose of the old model has been jettisoned in place of a front end that looks wide-eyed and snarling.

You can also enjoy triangular Matrix LED lights and an illuminated CUPRA logo integrated into the 3D rear light.

What changes have been made to the CUPRA Born interior?

The big change is to the Born’s digital cockpit (the screen that sits behind the steering wheel) which now measures 10.25 inches, almost double the size of the old model’s 5.3-inch display.

There’s a redesigned steering wheel featuring proper physical controls and plush new door panels.

You can also get your mitts on an augmented reality head-up display and upgraded Sennheiser Contrabass sound system.

What are the power and range figures for the facelifted CUPRA Born?

There are four motor-battery configurations to choose from, which also incorporate a new One Pedal Driving System.

The entry-level 58 kWh battery will now deliver a range of up to 279 miles between charges - a slight improvement of its predecessor’s 264-mile figure.

The larger 79 kWh battery unlocks a range of up to 372 miles (as before) while the range-topping VZ models retain their power figure of 326 PS (enabling it to sprint from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds).

Rapid charging maxes out at 185 kW DC for the 79 kWh battery while charge stats for the smaller 58 kWh unit are still to be revealed.

This is the third time I've leased a vehicle through Select Car Leasing and my leasing consultant Alex did a great job of getting everything sorted even after I changed my mind a couple of times post-order submission. The vehicle turned up when it should in great condition, and although not directly in SLC's control, they followed up afterwards to check if everything went OK. No issues in recommending Alex or SLC and will likely use them again in future if I continue leasing.
