This is the new Bentayga Speed - and it’s the most powerful Bentley SUV yet.

The Bentley Bentayga is currently offered with either a 3.0-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain with 449 PS or a traditional V8 with 550 PS.

This new ‘Speed’ variant uses an uprated, twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 to deliver a whopping 650 PS and 850 Nm of torque.

It’s enough to propel Bentley’s flagship SUV from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds, which blitzes both the Bentayga V8 S (4.4 seconds) as well as the 3.9 second mark set by the previous W12-engined Bentayga Speed.

Top speed for the Bentayga Speed maxes out at 193 mph.

A new Sports exhaust system lets the V8 really sing and features two elliptical tailpipes emerging through the rear diffuser. You can opt for a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system with quad pipes if you really want to make an entrance.

Bentley has also enhanced the SUV’s ‘Sport’ mode. There’s a 15% increase in suspension damping stiffness while torque vectoring has been improved for ‘exceptionally agile turn-in capabilities’, says Bentley.

Plump for the optional carbon ceramic brakes and you’ll unlock the ‘ESC Dynamic’ function in Sport mode, which ‘relaxes the ESC intervention to permit exhilarating drift angles or power-on oversteer where appropriate’, Bentley tells us. Meanwhile Launch Control is fitted to a Bentayga for the first time ever. All-wheel steering is a given.

Besides the engine, the Bentayga Speed also gets its own unique design features, including dark tint brightware, bright chrome Speed badges on the leading edge of the front doors, and 22-inch Speed wheels in either dark tint or silver.

There are ‘Speed’-specific flourishes throughout the cabin, including badging on the treadplates and seat uppers.

A spokesperson for the Crewe-based manufacturer reveals: “Through careful chassis enhancements and the adoption of the new High Powered 4.0 V8, Bentley’s engineers have created the most powerful and dynamic Bentayga ever, without losing an iota of what makes a Bentley, a Bentley.”

How does that all stack up against rivals? The Aston Martin DBX S gets 727 PS, 900 Nm torque, and can throttle from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds, while the Range Rover SV boasts 615 PS and the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
