- Wireless charging tech trialled by Iveco
- Experiment involves charging while you drive
- Tech is known as dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT)
- Being tested on the Iveco eDaily, which you can lease with Select Van Leasing

Iveco has begun testing an electric eDaily van capable of charging wirelessly while driving, as part of an experimental motorway project in Italy.
The specially adapted van is operating on the A35 Brebemi motorway between Brescia and Milan, where sections of road have been fitted with infrastructure that can transfer electricity directly to vehicles as they travel over it.
The technology, known as dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT), allows compatible electric vehicles to recharge while moving, potentially reducing the need for large batteries or frequent charging stops.

Real-world testing
Unlike earlier demonstrations using experimental prototypes, the trial uses a production Iveco eDaily fitted with additional inductive charging hardware.
The vehicle has joined the Argentea fleet, operated by motorway concessionaire A35 Brebemi, and will be used by staff for everyday operational duties during the trial.
Configured as a 42C Crew Van with six seats, the eDaily supports both static wireless charging when parked over an equipped pad and dynamic charging when driving over specially prepared sections of road.

Charging while driving
Wireless charging for electric vehicles has been under development for several years, but projects like the Brebemi trial are now moving beyond laboratory testing and into real-world environments.
Similar trials have recently begun in France and the United States, as researchers explore whether embedded charging infrastructure could support electric mobility on a larger scale.
If widely adopted, systems like DWPT could allow electric vehicles to top up their batteries while travelling, potentially reducing reliance on traditional plug-in charging.

Infrastructure remains the challenge
Despite the promise of the technology, large-scale deployment would require significant investment to equip roads with embedded charging hardware.
For now, the Brebemi project remains primarily a technology demonstration, but it offers a glimpse of how future electric commercial vehicles might recharge while on the move.
