- Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra can now be ordered in UK
- Supported by UK GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) operation
- Full UK homologation and direct manufacturer support
- You can't lease them just yet, sadly
General Motors has launched its GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) operation in the UK, bringing factory-backed American pick-up trucks to British buyers for the first time.
The move means models such as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra can now be ordered with full UK homologation and direct manufacturer support, rather than relying on independent importers.
Large American pick-ups have long been available in the UK through specialist dealers, but these have typically been grey imports without direct backing from the manufacturer.
Under the new GMSV operation, vehicles will be supplied by General Motors itself and come with a three-year unlimited-mileage warranty, with the option to extend cover by a further two years. Buyers will also have access to approved finance and nationwide servicing support.

Initial UK deliveries will be handled through Clive Sutton in London, which becomes the first official GMSV franchise partner. GM says a wider retail network is expected to follow.
Demand for full-size American pick-ups in the UK remains relatively small, but the segment has developed a loyal following among buyers looking for high towing capacities, V8 engines and premium interiors.

Silverado and Sierra joined by SUVs in official UK line-up
Alongside the Silverado and Sierra 1500 pickups, the UK range will also include large SUVs, including the Cadillac Escalade (below) and GMC Yukon.
UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, but the trucks will compete with other full-size American pick-ups already available in the UK, including the Ram 1500.

For buyers considering a large US pickup for towing, specialist work or lifestyle use, the availability of factory support and manufacturer warranty could make these models more appealing than privately imported vehicles.
Whether GM can build its promised nationwide dealer network remains to be seen, but the arrival of officially supported vehicles removes some of the uncertainty that has historically surrounded grey imports.

The first UK vehicles are currently on their way here, with customer deliveries expected in the spring.
