Renault has unveiled a brand-new generation of electric light commercial vehicles at the CV Show in Birmingham -  and Select Van Leasing was there to get hands-on with them ahead of release.

Due to launch in 2026, the trio of models — the Trafic E-Tech, Estafette E-Tech, and Goelette E-Tech — set Renault's LCV line-up on a new path, with a strong focus on inner-city operators and fleet customers preparing for stricter zero-emission zones.

All three vans are underpinned by a new electric skateboard platform and Ampere’s Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture. That not only enables flexible body formats and smart packaging, but also future-proofs the vans with regular over-the-air updates and app-based fleet management tools.

Trafic E-Tech: Familiarity reimagined

The Trafic E-Tech may carry a well-known badge, but this is an entirely new van. Set to join the electric van market in 2026, this fourth-generation model features a modern one-box design, LED lighting, and an aerodynamic silhouette optimised for urban efficiency.

With two body lengths and a roof height of just 1.9 metres, the new Trafic is built with multi-storey car parks and tight loading bays in mind. Load volumes come in at 5.1 and 5.8 cubic metres, depending on spec.

Power is provided by a 150kW (204hp) motor delivering 345Nm of torque, and buyers will have a choice of two battery packs: an LFP battery good for around 217 miles (WLTP) or a long-range NMC battery offering up to 280 miles (WLTP). Both are compatible with ultra-rapid 800V DC charging, allowing a 15–80% top-up in under 20 minutes.

Thanks to the skateboard chassis, the battery sits under the floor, while the motor drives the rear wheels. That frees up cabin space and allows for better weight distribution. Renault also claims a super-tight turning circle of just 10.3 metres — the same as the new Renault 5— helping drivers easily navigate narrow city streets.

Inside, the cab is smart and practical. The minimalist and digital-first dash incorporates a horizontal storage rail, deep bins, a hidden compartment visible from outside, and a 12-inch infotainment screen with full Google app integration.

Estafette E-Tech: Built for deliveries

The Estafette E-Tech is a high-roof electric van designed for the final mile. The name harks back to the 1950s Renault Estafette, but everything else is thoroughly modern. This new model stands at 2.6 metres tall, allowing drivers up to 6ft 2in to stand comfortably inside the load area.

With a length of 5.27m and a load volume of 9.2 cubic metres, the Estafette targets urban delivery firms that value access and ergonomics over the outright payload.

In place of conventional rear doors, the Estafette uses a roller shutter that disappears into the roof for easier loading at docks. Side doors are suspended externally and can be operated with an elbow — ideal for busy delivery drivers with both hands full. A smart ‘delivery stop’ mode automatically opens the load bay and activates hazard lights at each drop-off.

The Estafette shares its dashboard architecture with the Trafic but adds a higher seat position and extra internal storage. A fold-down seat provides occasional use for a second person, or simply more room for gear.

Goelette E-Tech: For the converters

Finally, the Goelette E-Tech rounds off the line-up as Renault’s conversion-friendly platform. Based on the same cab and chassis as the Trafic E-Tech, the Goelette is designed with flexibility in mind — whether that’s for box bodies, chassis cabs, refrigerated vans or crew carriers.

With a payload capacity of up to 1.4 tonnes and reinforced axles, it’s aimed at trades and services that need more than a panel van can offer. Renault’s in-house Qstomize team — as well as its network of approved converters — will support custom builds, all backed by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Crucially, the Goelette retains the benefits of the shared SDV platform, meaning buyers get the same connected features and over-the-air software updates, regardless of the final body type.

Smarter software, lower downtime

All three vans are built around Renault’s new Software Defined Vehicle concept. That means remote diagnostics, predictive maintenance alerts, and seamless app-based control for fleet managers. The Android-based CAR OS infotainment system includes Google Assistant, route planning tools and even access to third-party fleet software.

There’s also a ‘Safety Coach’ feature that monitors driving behaviour and suggests ways to reduce energy use and wear — potentially helping operators cut operating costs and boost uptime.

And thanks to built-in Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, these electric vans can double up as mobile power sources. That could mean powering tools on-site — or selling energy back to the grid while the van is parked overnight.

Two Trafics, one badge

Interestingly, Renault told Select Van Leasing that the current diesel-powered Trafic van will remain on sale “indefinitely” alongside the new E-Tech version. That means operators not yet ready to make the switch can continue to lease the diesel model — at least until legislation or demand pushes it off sale. We suspect the current generation model, introduced in 2014, will get a comprehensive facelift in 2026.

Coming in 2026

All three of Renault’s next-generation electric vans — Trafic E-Tech, Estafette E-Tech and Goelette E-Tech — will be built in France at the Sandouville plant, with production starting in 2026. Pricing, specifications, and leasing availability will be confirmed closer to launch.

For fleet operators and small businesses planning for the future, these new vans look to offer a real-world blend of practicality, technology and urban capability — with Renault’s design flair adding a little extra appeal.
