Yacht-inspired Rolls-Royce is nautical but nice!

  • Rolls-Royce Cullinan Yachting revealed
  • Bespoke limited edition of flagship SUV
  • Just four examples will be built
  • ‘Starlight’ headliner with sea wind pattern
  • Stunning hand-painted wave elements in the interior

Love your boats as much as you love expensive SUVs? You’ll want to check out this yachting-inspired new Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The V12-engined Cullinan is Rolls-Royce’s ultra-luxury SUV and the British firm’s most popular model, priced at around £340,000 in regular form.

Here the Cullinan has been treated to a bespoke makeover inspired by the sea, and just four examples of the Cullinan Yachting will be built.

Each is defined by one of the cardinal points of the compass - North, South, East or West - and you’ll find that theme repeated in the exterior and interior.

What is Rolls-Royce’s association with yachting?

Rolls-Royce says it has a ‘deep connection’ with the yachting culture, with many owners spending time at sea.

It’s a history that dates all the way back to founder Charles Rolls, whose family owned the Santa Maria - a schooner-rigged steam yacht - which he worked on board in the late 1800s.

Rolls-Royce also provides engines for high-end yachts - while many of its own vehicles have been inspired by the design cues from racing yachts.

What’s special about the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Yachting?

The opulent Cullinan Yachting features ‘meticulous marine-inspired details and authentic materials, true to the spirit of adventure that defines Cullinan and the world of yachting alike’, according to Martina Starke, Head of Bespoke Design, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

All four commissions feature marine-grade teak detailing and a ‘Starlight’ illuminated headliner that displays the wind patterns of the Mediterranean sea.

A Rolls-Royce spokesperson adds: “The shifting air currents - charted and interpreted by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective of designers, craftspeople and engineers - are rendered in subtle motion across the roof of the interior suite.”

Perhaps most striking are the hand-painted nautical fascias in the cabin that boast a lifelike wave effect.

The direction of the wake reflects the orientation of each commission - North, South, East or West - ensuring each is a true one-of-one.

The effect took two months of experimentation to perfect and saw the pigment airbrushed onto the wet lacquer before being shaped by hand with a fine brush.

The wood compass in the back also comprises 40 individual pieces of veneer in Sycamore, Teak, Ash and Black Bolivar, precisely cut and assembled by hand.

Rolls-Royce hasn’t revealed how much the Cullinan Yachting might cost, but we’d expect a price tag north of £400,000.

Had a great experience with leasing a car via Select Leasing. Very professional but friendly. Kept me well informed throughout the procedure and communication was brilliant. I would definitely recommend.
