The small van market has been buoyant since the Covid pandemic brought everything to a grinding halt, with the Citroen Berlingo being the first van to top 50,000 registrations since 2020.
A popular model amongst owner-operators and small and medium-sized enterprises, Citroen has registered 4,870 Berlingo vans this year, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. That brings its total since 2020 to 50,043 registrations — ahead of the Ford Transit Connect with 46,317 sales and the Berlingo’s Peugeot twin, the Peugeot Partner, with 43,036 vans making their way to UK roads.
Recently revised, the new Berlingo joins an updated medium-sized Dispatch and larger Relay models in a completely refreshed lineup. Citroen also sells the tiny Ami Cargo, a battery-powered micro-van.
The electric version of the van, the Citroen e-Berlingo, is manufactured at Ellesmere Port, in the UK’s first EV-only manufacturing plant. Limited production of its larger sibling, the e-Dispacth, will start in Luton in 2025 alongside the diesel-powered model.
Greg Taylor, managing director at Citroen UK:
“The Berlingo Van continues to be a huge hit with SMEs across the country. Available as a fully-electric variant and now built in Britain, we continue our commitment to providing comfortable and practical vans to suit the needs of SMEs the country over. Our new van range, including Berlingo Van, demonstrates our commitment to providing a van that meets the needs of every user and a Citroen Retailer Network able to support their requirements.”
