Author: Dipti Parmar     Date: 04-06-2015

Today, we have come up with a comparison between two recently launched new compact hatchback cars – the Vauxhall Viva and Suzuki Celerio.

Vauxhall Viva versus Suzuki Celerio

Both the Vauxhall Viva and Suzuki Celerio are the new compact five-door hatchback cars and their price starts from £7,995 as a basic list price.

Small hatchback cars are in hot demand in the motoring world at the moment. They combine practicality, fun-driving, driving dynamics and great fuel efficiency.

Stepping into the compact hatches market, Suzuki have come up with the newcomer Celerio to the city car market offering decent performance and plenty of space in an affordable package. Vauxhall have also launched its new Viva as a competitor with low prices and plenty of kit entering into the crowded city car segment.

DESIGN AND STYLING:

The Viva is the latest budget city car in Vauxhall’s range offering to sit below the Adam and Corsa. At 3.68 metres long Viva shares its design elements with the new Corsa. The Viva has distinctive styling from the side – with sculpted bulges rising upwards towards the tail – the front and rear aspects seem ordinary by comparison. The Viva is offered with 10 colours to choose from to help liven it up.

The Suzuki Celerio is a new city car and replaces both the Suzuki Splash and the smaller Suzuki Alto. At 3.6 metres long and 1.54 metres height; the Celerio comes up with great agility and all-round visibility.

The Vauxhall Viva comes with two choices of trims – SE and SL. The SE model comes with 15inch structure wheel, electronic stability control, cruise control a speed limiter, lane departure warning, front fog lights with cornering function and trip computer as standard. The Suzuki Celerio is offered with two choices of trims – SZ3 and SZ4. The SZ3 model comes with 14 inch alloy wheels, 2 speakers, Bluetooth and MP3/radio connectivity, manual air conditioning, electric front windows, immobiliser, remote central door locking, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS and ESP comes as standard.

PRACTICALITY:

Despite being a budget car, both cars come with a decent amount of equipment, plenty of interior space and enough room for five adults. Both models comes with five door as standard which makes easy to access the rear seats; plus the rear seats are foldable meaning it expands the boot space.

ENGINES:

The Viva is available in only one small 1.0 litre 75hp petrol engine with a choice of EcoFLEX technology, offering combined fuel consumption of 62.8 and 65.7 miles per gallon respectively. The Suzuki Celerio is also available with one 1.0 litre small engine offering 65.7 miles per gallon fuel economy with CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometre.
