Fisker Ocean Extreme to have 440 mile range

Super-cool Californian manufacturer Fisker is accelerating towards the UK market - and its Ocean Extreme electric SUV will get a colossal 440 mile range between charges.

Trail-blazing brand Fisker is based in Anaheim, USA, and spearheaded by Danish-American entrepreneur and former Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker.

Fiskers have been going down a storm Stateside, with celebs like Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher being high-profile owners, while eco-campaigner Leonardo DiCaprio is a brand ambassador.

Those actors and singers have been mostly behind the wheel of the Fisker Karma, a sumptuous plug-in hybrid saloon that made a brief appearance here in the UK a decade ago.

Now the Fisker Ocean is coming to Britain. It’s an all-electric SUV that’ll be available in various guises and which should be here in a matter of months.

And Fisker has revealed that its priciest variant - the Ocean Extreme - will have a whopping-great range of up to 440 miles between charges.

It means, Fisker says, that the Ocean Extreme will have ‘the longest range of any battery electric SUV sold in Europe today’.

The Fisker Ocean Extreme could also travel from London to Glasgow, or from Paris to Frankfurt, on a single charge.

It certainly blows the 331-mile Tesla Model Y Long Range out of the water, and comes very close to the range of the record-breaking Mercedes-Benz EQS Saloon, which can travel up to 453 miles between plug-ins

CEO Henrik Fisker said:

“From the beginning, we planned the Fisker Ocean to deliver the highest level of design, sustainability, innovation, usability, and range. We created a fantastic 5-passenger vehicle, offering our buyers range confidence and convenience in every trip. This achievement is a major milestone for everyone at Fisker, and we are delighted the range exceeds our initial calculations.”

There are three main Fisker Oceans - all of which have been built with sustainability in mind and feature interiors created using reclaimed fishing nets and recycled T-shirts.

The entry-level model is the Ocean Sport, which begins at £35,970. That’s a decent wedge cheaper than a Volkswagen ID.4 and just a shade more expensive than the Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric.

The Ocean Sport gets a single motor, a range of up to 273 miles, and power of 278 PS.

The mid-range Ocean Ultra begins at £49,880 and has a dual-motor, all-wheel drive set-up that provides a range of up to 379 miles, power of 543 PS, and a 0-62 mph time of just 4.2 seconds.

The Ocean Extreme takes the power up to 558 PS while having acceleration to trouble a Porsche Taycan - with 0-62 mph going by in just 3.9 seconds. Whoosh!

All Fisker Oceans, barring the base Ocean Sport, also come equipped with ‘California Mode’, which lowers all of the windows, including the sliding rear window, while opening-up the sunroof - perfect for feeling the wind in your air (or the rain down the back of your neck if you’re driving on a typical British bank holiday).

Fisker expects European homologation - the official approval process carried out by each country - by April 28 this year with ‘customer deliveries thereafter’.

Watch this space, because it’s sure to be a popular leasing option and a brilliant alternative to the likes of the Kia EV6, Skoda Enyaq iV and the BMW iX3.
