Fisker Ocean to make a splash in the UK

This is the California-bred, all-electric Fisker Ocean SUV. It’s set to arrive in the UK next year - and you should be excited about it.

In a time where every penny counts right now, £23,000 is a lot of money.

That’s precisely how much cheaper the Fisker Ocean is compared to one of its biggest rivals, the Tesla Model Y.

The Model Y will set you back at least £57,990 to buy outright. The Fisker Ocean, on the other hand, will begin at just £34,990 - only a few grand more than the most expensive Fiat 500 Electric.

And when the Fisker Ocean looks just as sharp as a Tesla and boasts similarly-rapid performance, it’ll be on the shopping lists of plenty of lease customers.

So, what is Fisker and why should you care?

Headquartered in sun-drenched Anaheim, US, Fisker is the brainchild of Danish-American designer and entrepreneur Henrik Fisker.

The Ocean isn’t the first Fisker to grace UK roads. That honour goes to the Fisker Karma, a stunning saloon which featured an electric range-extender but which never quite caught on.

The Ocean, though, looks to have the world at its feet.

In the next few days it’ll take centre stage at the Pebble Beach Automotive Week at ‘Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance’ near Monterey, California, and it’s expected to arrive in Blighty at the back end of 2023.

Fisker says it’s a fully-fledged SUV, not a crossover model, which will also pit it against the BMW iX3 and the Audi Q4 e-tron.

Made with Fisker’s strict sustainability targets in mind, the interior is built using reclaimed fishing nets and recycled T-shirts.

The base ‘Sport’ model has power of 275 bhp channelled to the front wheels and will accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds. Crucially, the Sport variant also gets a range of up to 275 miles between charges, short of the base Model Y’s 331 mile range.

The cheapest Fisker Ocean also comes with a 17.1in touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, an electric tailgate, cruise control and automatic headlights.

Mid-level ‘Ultra’ versions are much more potent, coming with 540 bhp and a 4.2 second 0-62mph sprint time. A ‘hyper range’ battery also takes range up to an impressive 390 miles.

The Ultra also gets a retractable roof as well as goodies like automatic emergency braking, and a ‘California Mode’ button that drops all of the windows - including the glass in the rear screen - and opens the roof at the same time.

Meanwhile ‘Extreme’ Oceans have more power still - at 550 bhp - as well as a 3.7 second burst to 62mph. You can also expect a 360 degree camera, lane change assist, and smarter traction control.

The range-topping model can also be had with solar panels fitted to the roof, able to produce an extra 1,500 miles of range in a typical year. Hopefully Fisker are aware of the Great British Weather and have factored-in our grey skies…

There’s no information on charging just yet, but that’ll be revealed in due course.

Fisker is also committed to really making its mark in Europe.

It recently created a ‘Fisker Magic Works’ division in England, which will concentrate on special editions and ‘high performance’ projects.

Full production is due to begin in Austria in November this year, so watch this space for further updates.
