CUPRA Tavascan: Spotted!

Here’s an alternate look at the incoming CUPRA Tavascan - as spotted by one of our Select Car Leasing roving reporters.

The Tavascan is a stunning new electric SUV from CUPRA that’s due to become available to lease next year.

It was first revealed in April this year, when it quickly made jaws drop thanks to its futuristic, sculpted interior and its abundance of power.

And now the Tavascan has been spotted in the wild, as CUPRA showed it off on a special display stand inside Barcelona airport.

It’s fair to say that the Tavascan looks just as good in the flesh as it does in CUPRA’s promo pictures, and it’ll provide plenty of competition for the Tesla Model Y or Volkswagen ID.5.

When the battery-powered SUV arrives in 2024, it’ll be available with two power outputs of either 286 PS or 340 PS. The latter of those two options will propel the Tavascan from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds, which trumps the entry-level Model Y by a good second.

The 77 kWh battery provides up to 341 miles worth of range and, thanks to rapid 135 kW charging, you can replenish the energy from 10-80% in just under 30 minutes.

The Tavascan will also get a whopping-great 15-inch infotainment screen - the largest ever fitted in a CUPRA - and that head-turning cabin wouldn’t look amiss in a big budget Hollywood Sci-Fi flick.

Meanwhile the cool thing about the Tavascan being displayed in Barcelona, is that it was also designed and developed in that Catalan capital.

Besides the Tavascan, CUPRA has also this week been showing-off the DarkRebel show car at Germany’s prestigious IAA motor show in Munich.

The DarkRebel is a fully electric ‘shooting brake’ - aka ‘coupe with a big boot’ - sportscar that ‘pushes the boundaries of design and performance’, according to CUPRA.

The interior is every bit as groundbreaking as the Tavascan, boasting a ‘spine’ in the centre console, ‘Supersport’ bucket seats and an illuminated glass gear shifter.

Power of 450 hp also means the DarkRebel can accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 4.0 seconds.

And while the DarkRebel looks outlandish, full production could be a real possibility. CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffiths told the assembled press: “If you know us at Cupra, when we do concept cars and show cars, we normally end up doing them; we normally deliver.”

Until the Tavascan or DarkRebel make their way to leasing customers, you should also take a look at the potent Formentor - a compact SUV from CUPRA.

You get at least 150 hp, the VW-owned firm’s inimitable good looks, and you can lease the CUPRA Formentor with Select Car Leasing from just £286 per month*.
