Trim tweaks for the CUPRA Leon

Your lease choices available with a CUPRA Leon have changed - and here’s everything you need to know.

CUPRA is, of course, the performance arm of Spanish manufacturer SEAT. And the Cupra Leon takes the regular SEAT Leon and adds more power and more aggressive styling.

It’s available to lease as either a hatchback or estate, and the CUPRA Leon makes a great alternative to the sportiest Volkswagen Golfs.

Up until recently, the CUPRA Leon - in both hatch and estate form - was up for grabs in three main trims, being VZ1, VZ2 and VZ3.

That’s all changed now. And instead you’ve got the entry-level ‘V1’ (the ‘Z’ has been dropped), followed by a new ‘V1 Design Edition’.

And after that follows a fresh ‘VZ2 Design Edition’, to replace the old VZ2 trim, and a ‘VZ3 Design Edition’ to oust the old ‘VZ3’.

What does this all actually mean in practical terms? You’re essentially looking at some subtle alterations in the looks department rather than wholesale changes.

The CUPRA Leon is still available with a wide choice of engines, beginning with a 1.5 litre petrol unit with power of 150 PS, and running all the way up to a 2.0 litre petrol with power of up to 310 PS.

That 310 PS Leon is actually more potent than a VW Golf GTI, and doesn’t fall all that short of a 320 PS VW Golf R - so you can see the appeal.

There’s also a plug-in hybrid powertrain which should appeal to company car drivers thanks to a lower Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax rate.

Standard equipment on the base Leon V1 - which you can lease with Select from just £256 per month* - features 18-inch black and silver alloys, a 10-inch touchscreen with sat nav, wireless phone charging, front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, sports suspension, predictive adaptive cruise control, and safety features like forward collision warning with braking and a lane keeping system.

That’s a whole lot of kit as standard.

The V1 Design adds copper accents on the alloy wheels.

And the VZ2 and VZ3 Design pack features 19-inch black and copper rims as well as a panoramic sunroof, black side skirts, and a black roof spoiler.
