The first thing you’ll notice is the sheer quality and care that has been attended to by the team behind the A-Class. Leather upholstery is complemented by a number of custom textiling and stitching option, that make for a completely personal experience. All A-Class leasing deals can be modified when it comes to aesthetics, and all are equipped with Mercedes’s pride and joy: the Intelligent Drive system which scrutinizes the finest details on the outside of the vehicle. A Mercedes A-Class Saloon bodytype is also available as an alternative option to the Hatchback version.

It wouldn’t be fair to discuss the A-Class in any detail without discussing it’s bright engine range. Mercedes described it as ‘’off and away with a lasting impression’’ and this is perhaps an apt description with a 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engine that provides a tremendous levelling torque without adversely affecting driver productivity and efficiency. Sports Direct-Steer will also make for a more fluid handling style.

In addition, the A Class Hatchback provides the choice of a hybrid lease option the A250e. The range using solely electrical power is 42 miles, a more than sufficient distance for a typical commute for those living in cities. Furthermore, with a lower Co2 g/km than the petrol or diesel only A-Class versions, this provides business car drivers with a more favourable tax position.

About the Mercedes-Benz A-Class

The A-Class began life as a compact people-carrier-shaped vehicle in 1997, but since 2011, it’s been shaped like a more conventional hatchback.

This gave it far more appeal to the masses, but it wasn't incredibly critically acclaimed despite selling in large numbers.

Then, in 2018, it had an overhaul that addressed all the criticisms.

As a result, there’s never been a better time to get your hands on an A-Class, which is sophisticated, well-equipped, handles well and is comfortable even on longer trips.

Of course, most Mercs are saloons or coupes, but with the A-Class being a hatchback, you’ve got a more accessible boot, too, making it a practical choice.

Why lease a Mercedes A-Class?

Since its significant shift in shape over a decade ago, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been a popular car.

It is not difficult to see why, with its attractive looks and classy interior – and a decent level of equipment, even at entry-level.

While it retains a family-friendly aesthetic, it has a mean frown at the front without looking excessively aggressive. Additionally, it has some stylish creases around the sides and shapely bodywork around the back, with a rear roof spoiler adding some extra personality.

All models come with front-wheel drive, and a selection of powertrains are available, all of which return decent fuel economy figures.

Although we're looking at the hatchback here, which is by far the most common model, if you would rather have a saloon, such a version is also offered.

Which Mercedes-Benz A-Class fuel type is right for me?

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class range comprises petrol and diesel engines plus a plug-in hybrid.

Petrol

The petrol models begin with the 136PS A180, a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit, while the A200 is the same engine boosted to 163PS, both with mild hybrid technology.

Diesel

The two diesels on offer are both 2.0-litre four-cylinder power units, made up of the 116PS A180d and the more potent 150PS A200d.

Hybrid

The A250e is a plug-in hybrid which blends the 1.3-litre petrol engine we mentioned above with an electric motor. It produces a combined 218PS, making it the most muscular powertrain in the range while also providing by far the best fuel economy and lowest emission figures. Unfortunately, however, this isn't available on the entry-level trim.
Four trims are available: Sport Executive, AMG Line Executive, AMG Line Premium, and AMG Line Premium Plus.

What vehicles are similar to the Mercedes A-Class that I should consider?

The two obvious main rivals to the A-Class are the Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series, with little else regarded in the same bracket. However, we've picked out a slightly left-field choice in the DS 4, which you might have yet to consider.

Audi A3 Hatchback

Audi A3 Hatchback

The A3 blends the best of Audi’s reputation for well-refined engines and impressive handling, in addition to being supremely comfortable.

DS DS4 SUV

DS DS4 SUV

The DS 4 is unlikely to be a car you’d consider worthy of a place at the top table, but it has fantastic looks, a luxury feel and a striking interior that might surprise you.

BMW 1 Series Hatchback

The BMW 1 Series combines efficient, refined engines with absorbing ride comfort and sharp handling, practicality, a lovely interior, and a class-leading infotainment system.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class FAQ

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is at the top of the family hatchback market, combining a classy, premium feel with the practicality and fuel economy you expect of a small, dependable runabout. While the powertrains on offer may not excite thrill-seekers, there are AMG hot-hatch variants to cater to that. Still, the standard A-Class certainly impresses, offering excellent handling, a sophisticated interior, a quality infotainment system, and many driver assistance and safety systems. With various trim levels available, even the entry-level model comes well-equipped, offering a wide range of choices to suit all palates and budgets.

With several trims on offer, the leasing price of the A-Class will vary depending on how much sophistication you want to sprinkle on what's already a very tempting car to lease. Nevertheless, thanks to our close relationships with manufacturers, we are well-positioned to offer some of the most competitive deals on the market. Therefore, you could drive away in an A-Class from around as little as £375 a month.

Leasing a Mercedes-Benz A-Class will get you a car competing at the top of its game amongst the best family hatchbacks on the market, with a generous level of standard equipment. Kit encompasses LED headlights and a 10.25-inch touchscreen which houses an impressive infotainment system. In addition, 18-inch alloys are included across the range, apart from the top-of-the-range model, which gets larger 19-inch wheels, while two-zone climate control and a leather sports steering wheel are standard on all models. Furthermore, the AMG Line models feature sportier styling elements, while all but the entry-level model gets synthetic leather with red stitching throughout the cabin. And, if you choose the top-of-the-range model, you'll get a panoramic glass sunroof, too. So, look at the model descriptions to learn more about the Mercedes-Benz A-Class's key features.

In a word, yes. The A-Class was thoroughly assessed by the crash-test boffins at Euro NCAP in 2018 soon after the latest model was launched. Not only was it awarded a five-star rating, but it also notably scored 96% for adult occupants. Safety systems include automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, a driver attention monitor and traffic sign recognition. More safety features, such as rear-cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring, are available as part of the optional packs, which can be specified at your discretion. In terms of practicality, as a relatively small car, there are, of course, more spacious vehicles available. Still, the room on offer in an A-Class is typical of a car of this size, while the fact it's a hatchback means it offers a wide opening for its boot.

There are four main trims on the A-Class, with Sport Executive at entry-level, which offers 18-inch alloys, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED headlights, two-zone climate control, leather sports steering wheel and privacy glass. The AMG Line grades come next, with AMG Line Executive getting the same-sized alloys but with AMG styling. It also features a 64-colour ambient lighting system, illuminated front door sills, and ARTICO synthetic leather upholstery with red stitching, complemented by the Night Package, which adds black styling features to the car's exterior. AMG Line Premium adds sports seats and keyless entry, while top-of-the-range AMG Line Premium Plus gets 19-inch rims, a tilting, rain-sensing panoramic glass sunroof, and upgraded LED headlights.
