Check out our Hyundai Santa Fe video review!

Monster made good?

Hyundai’s mammoth SUV, the Santa Fe, has recently been transformed – and it might just surprise you if you’re after a premium utility vehicle.

Despite being based on the same platform as the previous model, it bears no resemblance to the outgoing Santa Fe. In fact, this new one seemingly takes styling cues from the previous generation Land Rover Discovery.

With fully-foldable second and third row seats, class-leading interior space, and a wealth of driver assistance and safety systems, a Hyundai Santa Fe lease ticks all the right boxes for busy families.

About the Hyundai Santa Fe

The Santa Fe is the largest SUV in Hyundai's line-up, sitting ahead of the Tucson and Kona.

As a practical family car, the Santa Fe excels. It comes with 7 seats as standard but can also be equipped as a 6-seater, with those models boasting luxurious captain’s chairs in the second row and two additional seats in the third row.

Another Santa Fe party piece is the ability to fold the rear seats fully flat in order to create van-like levels of cargo space - or to form a sleeping area for the more adventurous.

Every Hyundai Santa Fe lease is a hybrid of some description, with plug-in hybrid variants offering an EV driving range of up to 34 miles on a single charge.

Why lease the Hyundai Santa Fe?

The Hyundai Santa Fe is billed as a ‘go anywhere, adventure-ready’ SUV that’s also ‘city-friendly’, so it could tick a lot of boxes for lease customers in need of versatile transport.

As Hyundai points out, the tailgate area can even transform into a ‘terrace-like living space where you can relax and enjoy the outdoors’.

The Santa Fe offers decent amounts of power, with the self-charging hybrid models offering 239 PS and the plug-in hybrid developing 253 PS.

The plug-in hybrids come with all-wheel drive as standard while the hybrid models give you the option of either 2WD or 4WD.

Which Hyundai Santa Fe powertrain is right for me?

Hybrid (self-charging, 2WD or AWD)

Engine: 1.6-litre petrol | Battery: 1.49 kWh | Power: 239 PS | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 9 secs (2WD) or 9.2 secs (4WD) | Fuel economy: 42.1mpg (2WD) or 39.7 (4WD) | Transmission: Automatic.

Plug-in Hybrid (4WD)

Engine: 1.6-litre petrol | Battery: 13.8 kWh | Power: 253 PS | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 9.3 secs | Fuel economy: 166 mpg | Transmission: Automatic | EV driving range: Up to 34 miles.

Which Hyundai Santa Fe trim level should I lease?

Premium

Premium

Entry-level Premium models come equipped with: 20-inch alloys, leather upholstery, self levelling suspension, parking sensors front and rear, rear camera, powered tailgate, wireless phone charging, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with sat nav, keyless entry, privacy glass, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, sliding and reclining seats in the second row, and heated steering wheel. You also get Hyundai’s sophisticated driver assistance and safety tech that includes navigation-based Smart Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and the ‘Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 1.5’ assisted braking function.

Ultimate

Ultimate

The mid-level Ultimate grade adds extras like a sunroof, head-up display, surround view monitor, dual wireless phone charging pads, heated and ventilated seats in the front, Remote Smart Park Assist (which can automatically steer the Santa Fe in and out of parking spaces) and Highway Drive Assist 2 tech, which offers Level 2 autonomy and includes lane change assist.

Calligraphy

Calligraphy

The range-topping Calligraphy trim unlocks the option of leasing the Hyundai Santa Fe with 6 seats rather than 7. It also comes with 20-inch black alloy wheels and black style flourishes on the exterior, a Nappa leather interior, premium front relaxation seats, and an innovative ‘UV-C Tray’ which uses sterilising UV-C light to rid items like phones and keys of germs.

Hyundai Santa Fe Frequently Asked Questions

According to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) figures, the self-charging hybrid version of the Hyundai Santa Fe is capable of returning around 42.1 mpg for the front-wheel drive model, or 39.7 mpg for the all-wheel drive model.

The plug-in hybrid Santa Fe can return around 166 mpg on paper, but you’re unlikely to get close to that figure in real world driving scenarios. Fuel economy figures will always vary depending on conditions and driving style.

The plug-in hybrid Hyundai Santa Fe is capable of travelling around 34 miles in EV mode on a single charge. It takes around 2 hours 15 mins to charge the battery using a 7kW home wallbox. If you’re regularly driving longer distances or you want to maximise the EV range, you should charge as often as needed. Even if the battery isn't charged, the internal combustion engine will take over while the battery will also self-charge through regenerative braking and via the engine.

All trims come as standard with 7 seats but it’s the range-topping Calligraphy grade gives you the option of six seats, with the second-row bench replaced with a pair of sumptuous captain’s chairs.

With the latest Santa Fe, legroom in the rearmost seats has been improved by around 15mm, making them more practical than before. The seats are small but still accommodating enough for children, or for adults during shorter trips. Headroom in the rear is also good thanks to the Santa Fe’s box-like shape.

Access to the rearmost seats is granted via a button on the shoulder of the second-row seats. Depress that button, and the second-row seat slides forwards and tilts downwards, creating enough space for passengers to slip through.
