The BYD Sealion 7 is a fully-electric SUV that excels when it comes to comfort - and which has more performance than its looks might suggest. Dubbed as ‘crafted for tech-savvy families’, the Sealion 7 delivers on the tech front in spades.
We were lucky enough to get invited to an exclusive press event recently, and spent a few preciously hours putting this new offering from BYD through it's paces.
It can hit up 312 miles between charges and has a deliciously quick 0-62mph of 4.5 seconds. This is stamped on the boot if you ever forget.
About the BYD Sealion 7 SUV
The BYD Sealion 7 is described as an EV ‘crafted for tech-savvy families’.
To that effect, the coupe-shaped SUV comes loaded with equipment as standard, including a 15.6-inch rotatable screen, wireless charging, heated seats in the front and back, a 360-degree view camera, adaptive cruise control and vehicle to load (V2L) capabilities, which lets you power household devices from the car’s battery.
An efficiency boosting heat pump is fitted as standard, too.
Entry-level models are rear-wheel drive while all-wheel drive variants can also be leased with Intelligent Torque Adaption Control (iTAC) for better traction and safety.
Why lease a BYD Sealion 7 SUV?
Chinese manufacturer BYD loves an ocean-themed vehicle, and the Sealion 7 slots into the line-up alongside the Dolphin hatchback and the Seal saloon.
Dual U-shaped LED headlights and sculpted curves are said to ‘evoke ocean waves’ while ‘water-drop’ tail lights continue the aquatic theme.
Besides its attractive looks, the practical Sealion 7 also offers a generous 520-litre boot and plenty of legroom in the back for rear occupants.
A range of up to 312 miles between charges should be ample for most lease customers, while all-wheel drive variants can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, emergency lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Design
Design models add extras such as larger 20-inch alloy wheels. The Design grade is available with an all-wheel drive powertrain only.
Excellence
Excellence models feature Nappa leather seats and a Head-Up Display. The Excellence grade is available with an all-wheel drive powertrain only.
