About the BMW X3

First launched back in 2004, the BMW X3 is now in its fourth generation and continues to set the pace when it comes to luxury SUVs at the higher end of the leasing market.

The BMW X3 sits squarely between the smaller BMW X2 and the slightly larger (and also coupe shaped) BMW X4.

The X3 also acts as a key rival to SUVs like the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

There are multiple models to choose from, including the potent M50 performance variant which offers power of 398hp and the ability to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds.

The X3 will also pull a 2,400 kg braked trailer load and has won several industry awards for its towing skills.

Why lease the BMW X3?

With petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines to choose from, you're never short of options with a BMW X3 lease.

The plug-in hybrid BMW X3 is particularly attractive and combines power of 299hp with the ability to travel up to 55 miles using electricity alone.

The base 2.0-litre diesel engine offers power of 197hp while being capable of returning between 46.3 and 47.9 mpg, while a 2.0-litre petrol unit offers similar performance. Both the diesel and petrol models also come with 48-V Mild Hybrid assistance.

Every BMW X3 lease comes generously equipped as standard, with the entry-level ‘xLine’ trim boasting eco-friendly artificial leather upholstery, heated sports seats in the front, a 14.9-inch curved infotainment touchscreen and separate 12.3-inch digital display, wireless charging, and a powered tailgate.

Which BMW X3 powertrain is right for me?

Petrol (mild hybrid)

Engine: 2.0-litre petrol | Power: 208hp | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 7.8 secs | Fuel economy: 39.2 - 40.9 mpg | Gearbox: Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.

Diesel (mild hybrid)

Engine: 2.0-litre diesel | Power: 197hp | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 7.7 secs | Fuel economy: 46.3 - 47.9 mpg | Gearbox: Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.

Plug-in hybrid

Engine: 2.0-litre petrol | Battery: 19.7 kW | Power: 299hp | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 6.2 secs | EV driving range: 52-55 miles | Max charging: 11 kW | Gearbox: Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.

M50 (mild hybrid)

Engine: 3.0-litre petrol | Power: 389hp | Acceleration: 0-62mph in 4.6 secs | Fuel economy: 35.3 - 36.7 mpg | Gearbox: Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.

Which BMW X3 trim level should I lease?

xLine

xLine

The BMW ‘Driving Assistant’ tech includes Active Cruise Control with Steering and Lane Guidance Assist. The ‘Parking Assistant’ includes automatic parking, remote control parking, and a Reversing Assistant (which can remember and retrace specific manoeuvres).

M Sport

M Sport

The M Sport 'Pro' grade adds the BMW ‘Iconic Glow’ illuminated exterior package, M Seat belts, red M Sport brakes, and M Sport Suspension.

BMW X3 Frequently Asked Questions

There’s a broad mix of powertrain options when you lease the BMW X3. A traditional 2.0-litre diesel engine will appeal to customers in need of strong fuel economy, as it’s able to return up to 47.9 mpg. A 2.0-litre petrol unit has similar amounts of power but reduced fuel economy (in comparison to the diesel) of around 40mpg. A plug-in hybrid engine is both powerful (299hp) and efficient while offering an EV driving range of up to 55 miles on a single charge. The most powerful engine is reserved for the range-topping M50 model. It gets power of 389hp and can accelerate the X3 from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. All versions of the BMW X3 are all-wheel drive and all feature an automatic transmission with gearshift paddles.

The fourth generation BMW X3 introduced a curved dashboard display (14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cockpit) for the first as well as the iDrive 9 operating system. The latest X3 is slightly longer and wider than its predecessor but has a lower stance for a ‘very powerful and sporty look’, says BMW. You also get a generous 570-litre boot - which is slightly bigger than you enjoy with the Audi Q5, which is one of the X3’s closest rivals.

The diesel and M50 variants of the BMW X3 have a braked towing capacity of 2,500kg. The petrol has a slightly reduced towing capacity of 2,400kg. For the plug-in hybrid X3, the towing capacity falls to 2,000kg. The unbraked towing capacity for the X3 is consistent across models, at 750kg.

The regular X3 enjoys a large 570-litre boot, which is bigger than many of its rivals, including the Audi Q5 SUV and Porsche Macan. The X3’s luggage space expands to 1,700 litres with the seats folded down. You get a 40:20:40 rear seat split for easier loading. One thing you should bear in mind is that the plug-in hybrid X3 has a slightly smaller boot than other models, at 460 litres, in order to accommodate the car’s battery.

The X3 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) offers an EV driving range of 52-54 miles on a single charge, according to the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure). Max charging speed is 11 kW AC and a full charge will take around 2 hours and 15 minutes.
