Vauxhall unveil all-new Viva

An all-new Vauxhall Viva has been unveiled – a five-door hatch, it will be cheapest model in the current range. The vehicle will attempt to compete with market leaders the Hyundai i10 and Skoda Citigo. No pressure, then.

If there’s a vehicle that has a chance of really imposing on the established old-guard, then it’s the Viva. Carrying the name of one Britain’s most iconic vehicles of the 20th century, the Viva will look to replicate the serious success enjoyed by that vehicle before it’s production was abruptly stopped in 1979. Nearly everyone on these isles has heard of the Vauxhall Viva, and that is perhaps the strongest indication of the potential of Vauxhall’s latest offering.

As is the way with every new car, for one to arrive another has to leave. In this case, it is the unfortunate Agila who will be making way. Owners of the incredibly popular Adam, and Corsa models will be delighted to learn that a 74bhp version of the three-cylinder petrol unit that is already available in the aforementioned vehicles. As well as this is the exponentially popular City mode, which’s primary function is to make the steering lighter at the push of a button – an example of the superb technology now available in modern cars. The original Viva owners could surely scarcely have dreamed of what the re-invented model would offer ,and it’s potential seems unbounding. There will also be an option for either offer four or five-seat versions. Parking sensors are part of the options list, alongside cruise control, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The interior looks impressively lavish, with a number of alluring features and what looks like an exceptionally practical interior. Fear not Opel fans, you'll have your own offering, but it won’t take the Viva name.

Apple and Android fanatics will be jumping for joy that higher-spec versions of the vehicle will be packed with Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system – engineered to offer ease of access for customers of those products to Vauxhall’s ‘Sat-Nav’ app.

Vauxhall remain tight lipped on any leasing, or pricing specifications but keep checking back as we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest news.
