A Volkswagen Tiguan ‘Black Edition’ lease just got more tempting - because VW has added four new engines to the line-up.
The Tiguan should need little introduction, being a medium-sized SUV that competes with the likes of the BMW X1, Honda CR-V, and the Nissan Qashqai.
The ‘Black Edition’ trim sits close to the very pinnacle of the Tiguan range, just one rung down from the performance ‘R’ models.
Up until now you had a choice of just two powertrains with the Tiguan Black - a 1.5 litre petrol or a 2.0 litre diesel, both of which come with power of 150 PS.
Now, though, there are four new engines to choose from.
There are three traditional mills - one petrol and two diesels - that add 4MOTION all-wheel drive to the mix and added power of up to 200 PS.
And arguably the most headline-grabbing change is that there’s also now a plug-in hybrid powertrain to be enjoyed with the VW Tiguan Black Edition, in the form of the 1.4 TSI petrol ‘eHybrid’, that unlocks power of 245 PS.
It’s a hybrid unit you can already get with other Tiguan trim levels, and which has a range of around 30 miles using electricity alone.
What else is good about the VW Tiguan Black Edition?
You can expect sportier styling than elsewhere in the range, including unique bumpers, rear privacy glass, black decorative trims, and exterior mirror housings.
You also get 20-inch ‘Suzuka Black’ alloys, a panoramic sunroof, and metallic paint in a choice of three colours - Deep Black Pearl, Dolphin Grey and Reflex Silver.
A seven-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG) is standard-fit, as is a fully-connected infotainment system with streaming and internet, a heated leather steering wheel, and shift paddles.
The three new non-hybrid engines are the petrol ‘2.0 TSI 190 PS 4MOTION’, diesel ‘2.0 TDI 150 PS 4MOTION’, and the diesel ‘2.0 TDI 200 PS 4MOTION’.
