There’s a new pack leader in the Range Rover Velar line-up - the powerful new HST model.
Up until now, the most expensive Velar you could lease was the ‘Edition’ trim level, a vehicle costing from £61,000 to purchase outright and which sits above the base ‘Velar’ and mid-range ‘R-Dynamic’ variants.
But this HST Velar has moved straight to the top of the pile, and is available with a choice of powerful petrol or diesel mild-hybrid engines.
The ‘HST’ badge is a performance-infused label we’ve already seen with the Ranger Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport.
And Finbar McFall, Land Rover Brand Director, says the £69,865 HST marries that all important Range Rover luxury with some proper on-road - and off-road - capabilities.
He says:
“The new Range Rover Velar HST offers a combination of carefully curated design enhancements and chassis features; to add to its breadth of capability, without compromising its trademark refinement and comfort.”
Engines wise, the most potent is the 400PS petrol, which brings a top speed of 155mph and a 0-62 mph sprint time of 5.5 seconds. While it’s quick, it’s not the fastest powertrain in the Velar option list - that honour goes to the P400e plug-in hybrid system available with the Velar R-Dynamic trim level .
With a HST you can also choose a 300 PS diesel mill, which will get you from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds.
Style wise, the HST promises a ‘stealthy’ appearance, according to Land Rover, complete with a black contrast roof and full exterior Black Pack.
There’s an exclusive ‘Arroios Grey’ paint job reserved exclusively for the HST though, though a host of other colours are available, while lease customers will also enjoy privacy glass and gloss black 21-inch 5 split-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin you can expect a black suedecloth headlining and steering wheel as well as a sliding panoramic roof.
The new HST also features Land Rover’s cosseting Electronic Air Suspension system with Adaptive Dynamics for optimum comfort and control.
The ‘Adaptive Dynamics‘ wizardry constantly monitors the road conditions ahead and adjusts the suspension responses accordingly to make sure neither you nor your passengers get bent out of shape.
There’s also plenty of other creature comforts, including adaptive cruise control, a dual-screen infotainment system, powered tailgate, rear camera, heated steering wheel and a 3D surround sound system.
The Range Rover Velar HST is available to order now.
