If you need a versatile, premium hatchback with boot-loads of style, the new DS 4 is available to order and lease prices coming soon!
The French firm promises ‘luxury savoir-faire design language’ as well as ‘class-leading levels of technology’.
The DS 4 also now comes as an ‘E-TENSE’ plug-in hybrid for the first time - a PHEV powertrain capable of travelling 30 miles using electricity alone while also keeping Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax bills low for business lease customers.
But perhaps the best thing about the DS 4 is the fact there are so many variations and trim levels to choose from, ensuring you really do get the vehicle you want.
A DS spokesperson tells us:
“The all-new DS 4 features a striking new design, whilst embodying the brand’s savoir-faire positioning in the automotive industry. Whilst the exterior of the DS 4 features a distinctive design including a new light signature and slim projector headlights, complemented by Daytime Running Lights, the interior features refined materials including Alcantara, forged carbon and wood, all incorporated via new upholstery techniques, with watchstrap leather, pearl stitching and hidden seams.”
So let’s talk about all the different versions you can get.
Firstly, there’s the regular DS 4 - which comes in trim levels running from ‘Bastille+’ through to ‘Trocadero’ and ‘Rivoli’.
But on top of that you’ve also got the SUV-styled DS 4 Cross - which comes exclusively in ‘Trocadero’ or ‘Rivoli’ trim - as well as the more ‘athletic’ looking DS 4 Performance Line and DS 4 Performance Line+ models.
The good news is that all but the base DS 4 Bastille+ model is available with the 225 hp plug-in hybrid engine. And elsewhere there’s also a good choice of traditional engines, including a powerful 225 hp petrol mill and a frugal 130 hp Diesel BlueHDi version. All of those models are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The Performance Line+ models are particularly impressive, coming with a full suite of driver assistance and safety features, including an advanced emergency braking system and adaptive cruise control, as well as a DS ‘Smart Touch’ screen capable of handwriting recognition as well as a Head-Up Display.
The party piece, though, is the optional DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION controlled damping system - which is a £1,000 extra on the Performance Line models. It features a camera positioned at the top of the windscreen to scan the road ahead for imperfections, while four attitude sensors and three 'accelerometers' record every movement, allowing the system to control each wheel independently.
All of that should mean a seamless, cosseting ride quality ensuring some proper serenity inside the cabin.
A DS spokesperson adds:
“DS 4 variants are ideally suited to families and those after a versatile premium hatchback with a stylish and practical shape. The refined and charismatic design was inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE CONCEPT, with a compact length and wide, athletic stance. DS 4 models feature special bumpers, subtle chrome touches and a contrasting colour roof.”
