We have all the details of UK’s best selling cars of 2016 where the small hatchbacks were once again the most popular cars in the country & the Nissan Qashqai continues to grow in popularity and secure its position in UK’s top 10 bestselling cars of 2016.
Despite all the ups and down in the automotive industry in 2016 including Volkswagen’s diesel scandal, Brexit, VED Changes rule etc.

According to SMMT, 2016 was still the best year to date in the British automotive industry. A total of 2.7 million cars were registered last year this is compared to 2015 registration figures of 2,692,786 making a growth of 2.3 percent in total on last year.

In regards to fuel, petrol enjoyed 49% of the market share and diesel sat at 47.7% and alternative fuelled vehicles at 3.3%. Fuel vehicle registrations experienced a strong uplift in demand with increased shares of 22.2% across the year.
Diesel and petrol cars continued to be by far the most popular fuel types for consumers with a market share at 47.7% and 49.0% respectively. However, alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFVs) experienced a strong uplift in demand, up 22.2% across the year. Plug-in hybrids and petrol electric hybrids, in particular, experienced significant growth, with demand up 41.9% and 25.1% respectively. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 motorists chose to go fully electric in 2016 – up 3.3% on 2015.
As was expected, 2016 sales figures prove that small hatchbacks are UK’s most favourite cars to drive.
